Is this right? Is it seriously down to Keary and Bird to partner Maloney? Surely not.

Keary is the better player, but he's a Queenslander.

  3. Cribbage RG Cribb

I'd pick Keary if I didn't think he was a Queenslander. As it stands I'd probably pick Moylan.

  4. Boobidy BJ Gemmell

I still can't understand them making Keary represent NSW.

  5. Cribbage RG Cribb

They're not really, they're just not letting him represent Queensland. His decision to then say "okay I'll play for NSW then" is as disappointing to me as the original decision to not let him play for Queensland. I guess it'd be hard to turn down the money that comes along with it.

  6. Boobidy BJ Gemmell

I'd play for NSW if I were him, everyone would. The money on offer for the games, on top of the extra $$$ it will add to his NRL contract for being a SOO player.

It depends. Keary has attachment to both states. I don’t so I wouldn’t. Not a fucking chance in hell. I’m not trying to virtue signal here or be self-righteous. And yeah I realise the hatred I have for NSW is irrational but fuck that. I’d rather forego the money than betray QLD and all it’s past and present players. NSW is the enemy and always will be. Couldn’t live with myself.

lel, okay heman. Yes you would.

  9. Boobidy BJ Gemmell

All good saying that when it's not a realistic chance. When your agent says to you "this will cost you 400k a year if you don't play origin", you'd change your mind pretty quickly.

  10. Maroon_Faithful M Faithful

    Yeah I wouldn’t but anyways...

  11. Maroon_Faithful M Faithful

lol you think Keary’s agent said that to him? The cunt isn’t even assured he’ll ever play Origin and he’s flipped.

  12. Maroon_Faithful M Faithful

Gonna be funny if NSW win this series; the second in which Pearce doesn’t play. lol poor cunt. Love you heaps, Junior. :p

Word is Munster will be five-eighth. I’m happy with that.

  14. Boobidy BJ Gemmell

You think his agent hasn't been telling about the money it will cost him, if he hasn't his agent is retarded? He is assured he won't be allowed to represent QLD, of course he is going to flip, he is no chance of being chosen if he doesn't.

Been a month since I had a crack and there obv is some shocking picks above. Slater is still best option, especially with Munster basically our only decent 6 available who isn't DCE. There are so many picks that could go either way that wouldn't really bother me. Papalii, Kaufusi, Hess, Wallace, Arrow, Cooper all have reasons to pick or not.

    1. Slater
    2. Goates
    3. Chambers
    4. Inglis
    5. Gagai
    6. Munster
    7. Morgan
    8. Scott
    9. Smith
    10. Napa
    11. Papalii
    12. Kaufusi
    13. McGuire

    14. Hunt
    15. Wallace
    16. Hess
    17. Glasby/Cooper/Arrow

He wouldn’t be putting definitive figures of that magnitude into Keary’s head. How much did the money make him flip and how much the desire to play Origin regardless of which state? We don’t know but I highly doubt the money is the primary reason. And for you or me it would have to be.

  17. Maroon_Faithful M Faithful

Oates is not being picked over Holmes. It’d be a ridiculous selection afaic. It’s between Val and Boyd.

  18. Boobidy BJ Gemmell

I can almost guarantee money would be the primary reason. If there was $0 match payment, and SOO on the resume didn't increase his NRL contract, then he simply wouldn't play. Most players look at footy as a business, and don't have the "state pride" that you have in mind.

    Cribbage likes this.
  19. Maroon_Faithful M Faithful

That is a false hypothetical. The fact that he or others wouldn't play for nothing does not mean their primary motivation is money. You should stop telling people what they would do for money without knowing them from a bar of soap.

Prior to 2012, players were making 5-7k per Origin. And before that much less. Why were all those players risking injury playing for peanuts? In the hope that their next contract in 2 or 3 years would be inflated?
