Would have taken Hunt before him though.

Michael Morgan was pretty good at fullback in 2014.

  3. Julian BJ Taylor

Fock oath, was somewhat of z revelation. Was way better than Milford.

  4. Old Mate M Perry

I don't know if I'd say way better.

  5. Boobidy BJ Gemmell

Way better is a massive stretch. You have been quite dirty on Milf since he decided to leave.

  6. Julian BJ Taylor

Motors showed flashes of brilliance at Canberra but his 2014 tailed off massively and wasn't close to as good as Morgan's who was a revelation at fullback.

I hate Milford but he's an absolute gun and should've won the Clive Churchill.

  7. Boobidy BJ Gemmell

He could have fallen away because he didn't want to be there, shouldn't happen in a professional sport but it does.

  8. Julian BJ Taylor

Doesn't matter why, all I'm saying is Morgan was much better in 14.

It'll be interesting to see what team Walters picks. The composition is pretty much set but we don't know his personal preferences with the 50/50's. I can easily imagine him leaving out Lillyman for someone like McGuire or Napa.

  10. Boobidy BJ Gemmell

That wouldn't really matter too much.

Not really no. You could easily make the argument that it would be beneficial in that despite Lillyman's experience and his extremely underrated status, it's quite clear that Napa for example is much better suited to an impact role off the bench. Or that McGuire is just straight up the better player. It's more the composition of the side, and the bench in particular.

Given that Thaiday is most certainly going to start, Gillett and Papalli should, afaic, be fighting for the second rower spot on the interchange bench. And Papalii should get it quite comfortably. Aside from being more threatening in terms of breaking the line, Gillett really comes out second in every other facet. He's much weaker defensively, he has more errors in his game, he can't shift middle third to play prop. And so forth. But Walters studied under Bellamy so we'll probably end up with 18 backrowers.

Gillett has been better than Papalli over the last 18 months, IMO.

I think Ethan Lowe is already the type of player Wayne Bennett is trying to turn Matt Gillett into.

Gillett may well boom this year after taking last season to get used to an increased defensive workload but he's turning 28, it's pretty much now or never. 20 errors for a defensive player who didn't provide his side much in attack last year is appalling.

Hes one of only 4 or 5 first grade standard second rowers available to Qld so he'll be there or there abouts but Lowe would be my preferred of the two.

Papalii obviously first choice but his time is ticking too.

Stats don't do Gillett justice. He's one of my favourite players because he is one of those guys that has the quality of being a born rugby league player, for want of a better explanation. Good things seem to happen when he's on the field.

Sucks he wasn't born with co-ordination, Aka the Minichiello curse.

    His stats from his rookie season compared to his 2015 season say a lot about the role Bennett just wants him concentrating on and probably a fair representation of where his game is atm;

    2010 - 21 games
    2015 - 26 games

    2010 - 5 Try Assists
    2015 - 2 Try Assists

    2010 -13 linbreaks
    2015 -4 linebreaks

    2010 -7 linebreak assists
    2015 - 2 linebeak assists

    2010 - 90 tackle breaks
    2015 - 34 tackle breaks

    2010 - 35 offloads
    2015 - 13 offloads

    That's a real gay post.

That's a bit of an exaggeration don't you think? Our stocks aren't anywhere near as deep as NSW's but we've got more than 5.

I can't think of more off the top of my head, name them...

    Aiden Guerra
    Matt Gillett
    Josh Papalii
    Gavin Cooper
    Sam Thaiday*

The only other 2 who'd be close would be Mcqueen and Bukuya & they're borderline at best.

I know what Ged's trying to say. Gillett has an edge about him when it comes to being in the right spot, and getting across the line. In that regard he does have a sort of Steve Menzies feel about him as an Origin impact player. He was equal top try scorer in Origin this year; the only forward on the list. And he has made his fair share of breaks and half breaks playing off the bench for us.

Well you may not agree but I think Guerra is. I think Papalii is. Cooper, Lowe, Bukuya and Gillett are. Even blokes I don't rate very highly like Thaiday, Taylor and McQueen are at the very least FG standard edge forwards. You could throw Parker in there too as he's shown he can play second row for QLD.

And I really like Grevsmuhl despite his limited experience. I think he's a FG standard second rower in the making.
