Yeah it does, Meninga is bailing before QLD lose their Big 3 to ensure that his record and reputation stays overrated, bit like John Buchanan also for example must be a QLD thing

    1. Gould didn't quit at the end of several elite player's careers. The criticism of Gould's record has always been that he entered the Origin coaching arena just when QLD's glory days, most notably under Lewis, were ending i.e. early and mid 90's. As for his second stint, Fittler had already been retired from Origin since 01. Daley was gone, and Johns was only 30 at the time. How on earth does that qualify as getting out at the end of several elite player's careers?

    2. Meninga has been head coach of QLD for 10 years, ffs. He's bound to be leaving at or near the end of somebody's career. But we have no idea how much longer Smith, Thurston and Cronk will go. The first two have barely missed a game and they don't look like slowing down to me any time soon. They could all easily go into Langer/Lockyer/Price territory and play another 3 series for all we know.

It's an absurd argument really. We all know the cunt doesn't have much between the ears when it comes to coaching tactically or on the theory of the game but you cannot deny his ability to galvanise a football side. Both he and Daley are muppets but they're a hell of a lot better Origin coaches than say an astute coach like Bellamy.

Two years after Fittler announced his retirement from representative football, NSW coach Phil Gould brought him back to State of Origin for the second and third game. Both he and Gould were farewelled in the last game at Telstra Stadium after he scored the winning try that sealed the NSW victory.

Your bias towards your own opinion is ridiculous ....name your top 5.

didn't realise Meninga was out there scoring tries and making tackles, he's literally a motivational speaker cant strategise for shit which is why Hagan and Henry etc are prominent

That's very true. But that is essentially a rep coach's job. He's really essentially, a manager. He's put the strategists (Hagan, Henry, Walters) in assistant roles and focused on his role as a motivational leader. It works.

Er yeah, and? He managed to coach them without Fittler in the two previous years.

Thurston, Cronk, DCE, Hunt, Morgan. If it's bias then it must be pretty widespread because I doubt there is even one other person on here who thinks Milford is our third best half.

Realised during those two series that blokes like Brett Finch, Shaun Timmins, and Gower weren't cutting it as the halves of the next period and that Johns was becoming injury prone and decided to leave while his team was on top. much like Meninga knows that his spine is going to have upheaval in the near future and he best be on his bike

Morgan's had one good season and one good origin game. One swallow doesn't make a summer. Tbf though I definitely have Milford as 5th best option out of the 6 you boys have mentioned and Morgan would be Defo challenging if he backs up his form this season, especially because I don't know if Milfs off the cuff play vs less committed/tired defence will cut it in Origin

I don't disagree really but too many cunts out there make him out to be a tactical mastermind to go with his ability to motivate, you take away the QLD assistants input and QLD would not have performed to anywhere near the standard they have that's my gripe

Yeah so basically, you have no evidence for any of this and it's logically retarded.

It's not logically retarded. It's no secret the QLD side is old and will be going through a massive change, and won't continue the success of the last decade. Meninga has chosen the perfect time to get out, same as Gould.

Yeah basically like you have no evidence to say that Meninga isn't leaving for the reasons I've outlined either

I get what you guys are getting at but that is ignoring the fact that even when these blokes retire we've still got the best in each position waiting in the wings. I'd be pretty comfortable with a spine of Inglis, Hunt, DCE, Friend. And then you've got Morgan, Milford, Munster, Segayaro all on the way up.

The reason that I'm actually happy about this decision is that I don't have a lot of faith in Mal picking the correct option when it comes to who replaces these players.

  17. Maroon_Faithful M Faithful

Well the fact that he expects them to be there for at least another two series is a hell of a lot more convincing than anything you've brought to the table.

  18. Cribbage RG Cribb

That's not really any less than what Milford has done though.

    Milford 13/14 at Raiders >>>> Morgan's 13/14 IMO

  20. Boobidy BJ Gemmell

I think Morgan is more suited to origin.
