I still can't fucking believe NSW picked Beau Scott, Ryan Hoffman and Josh Jackson over Luke Lewis. Jackson is so fucking mediocre.

Besides NSW having a strong front row, I genuinely think an 'A' team that didn't play Origin this year (either non-selection or injury) would go close in a 3 game series.

    1. Matt Moylan
    2. James McManus
    3. Blake Ferguson
    4. Jack Wighton
    5. James Roberts
    6. Blake Austin
    7. Adam Reynolds/Jarrod Mullen
    8. Paul Vaughan
    9. Nathan Peats
    10. Aiden Tolman
    11. Luke Lewis
    12. Bryce Cartwright/Joel Thompson
    13. Greg Bird

    14. Ryan James
    15. Tyson Frizzell
    16. Tariq Sims
    17. Josh Reynolds
    18. Boyd/Campbell-Gillard

Am I the only one that's starting to think Tedesco should be close to being the next fullback?

The NSW halves are always going to be inferior to Cronk/Thurston, so Moylan will offer some creativity from the back to try and make up for it.

If I were NSW, I'd be starting to look at Lachlan Coote for the fullback spot, along with Moylan. Coote is obviously a little out of sight out of mind but he'd offer something to their side I reckon, not least knowing Thurston's tricks pretty intricately.

  6. Julian BJ Taylor

Why Coote when we've got Moylan who's better?

  7. Wilson SB Wilson

Because Coote plays for the Cows.

Yeah, that's puzzling. Coote would be monstered in Origin imo and would likely crumble. I also don't get Ged championing him as he'd have to know it would be mocked or ignored as he is a Cows supporter.
I wonder what he sees that makes him believe that Coote would be a like or better option than Moylan while being confident enough to share it with the world?

Tedesco would suit creative halves pretty well but Moylan's gotta be the pick. Tedesco should be ahead of Dugan for sure though.

Will start this off with an obvious disclaimer. I see more of Canberra players than anyone else. I probably watch 6 games a week with Canberra always being one of them.

One of NSW's biggest weaknesses (and a selection that is deemed by so many as not as important as others) over the past few years has been the wingers. Brett Morris has been ok at times, but outside of that it's been an absolute abortion. Tupou's not suited. Hopoate sucks. Dugan, who may get shifted, also isn't that suited IMO. Blake Ferguson could go ok but I absolutely think he needs to be selected at centre. Tedesco will be floated, but once again, his game isn't suited to the sting as it is at fullback.

I've got Wighton penned in barring injury. His transformation at fullback has been resounding.

There are a few reasons why I think it will work:

    - Easily fleet of foot enough.
    - His work under the high ball has been sensational and is forever imprioving
    - When used on the wing when he first started for Canberra he was fantastic, so he's not unproven there
    - He is really, really good at rucking the ball from his own end. He always seems to put on late footwork and slip through the oncoming shoulders. And he's always putting his hand up for plays 1/2/3 for Canberra under pressure.
    - Very, very rarely makes an elementary mistake
    - His defence is brilliant. His positioning at fullback has really come along, but his first contact is way above par for an outside back, so he will make try savers
    - Has size and uses it well. He's no Nathan Merritt or David Williams

Not pretending for a second he's a better fullback (or even player) than the other blokes listed in this post. I've just seen enough to be very confident he's one of the best two options for NSW to pick on the wing.

    2. Wighton
    3. Ferguson
    4. Jennings
    5. Morris

    For me at this point.

I still think Josh Morris has something to offer, particularly if Inglis ends up back in the centres for Queensland.

I never thought of Wighton as a winger. I like it, particularly if Dugan is fullback (which sadly he will be).

  13. Julian BJ Taylor

I wouldn't be picking Dugan at all.

  14. Cribbage RG Cribb

If I was picking the team from scratch I'd have Dugan centre at Ferguson wing, I think. I'd probably let them swap around a bit in attack but I'd have them defend like that over on the right.

Dugan will probably be fullback though, and I don't think you can have Josh Morris at centre if Dugan is fullback because it's just too much big athletic unco next to each other on right-side backline shifts, so Ferguson would go to centre and I think Wighton on the wing kind of makes sense then. Maybe Ferguson centre and JMorris wing in attack with them swapping over in defence would make more sense though.

Whats the reasoning behind changing the scheduling of SoO?

I remember hearing they're going to be played on Sundays or something?

  16. jazman84 JM Eightyfour

Wighton would be a good shout for a winger, but they'll never pick him.

  17. Harry Sack SB Slippy

It's just the one as part of a representative round. I think it's the second game.

Friend should be the front runner to replace Smith but I'd definitely have Granville next in line. His technique is excellent. A bit to work on with passing but he's pretty well-rounded and knows Thurston's game.

  19. Alec AD Funkotron

    Parcell to be next.

  20. Cribbage RG Cribb

Yeah Friend should be a walk-up start but I'd definitely be playing two hookers and I think the bench spot is more interesting. Granville is the next best hooker but Segeyaro is probably more suited to the role.
