Yeah mccrone will play dummy half

  2. BMT BMT Con

    It's painful just typing that.

  3. Julian BJ Taylor

I reckon McCrone would be a real assett as a bench dummy half at NRL level.

One thing I really hate across the competition at the moment is that every club just starts who they think is their best hooker regardless of whether or not they're better suited to a starting role. Plenty of clubs do it with front rowers too and it's just fucking stupid.
    Terrible coaching.

  4. BMT BMT Con

Maybe for impact but I'm not a fan of his defence in the middle at all. He would need to up his defensive involvement before I would consider him playing hooker, we will leak territory and tries if he doesn't IMO.

I agree but I think it's a bit of man management sometimes. 99% of players want to start and hate coming off the bench and if they're not happy a lot of them will kick up a stink and want to fuck off somewhere else.

    Exactly ......McCrone is a shunt.

  7. Magic AJ Parker

Would improve the Brocnos halves for next season.

  9. Magic AJ Parker

Nah legit post. He seriously would.

I think he's underrated in general on here. Had a poor finish to this season but that hardly makes him a dud all of a sudden.

  10. Sultan Pepper HG Emm

I dig McCrone, rate him as a traditional 5/8th 2 wide of the ruck.

  11. Mr Fourex MR Fourex

Nahh ....he seriously wouldn't. Him being a dud isn't "all of a sudden", it's just a continuance of what he always has been

and if anything, he's waay over rated on here.

I'm not a McCrone expert...but what I have seen in general is he makes some really shit decisions with the ball in his hand and is an absolute speed hump in defence.

If we at Brisbane do actually find ourselves short a half......I'd prefer to give one of the younger no-names a chance, then end up with an even worse version of Peter Wallace.

  12. Magic AJ Parker

A half short? There's a good possibility you'll find yourselves two halves short a few rounds in.

McCrone has his limitations but when he plays within himself he's definitely first grade standard and he's proven that in previous seasons. Picks up his line runners well, has a very understated running game, has a good short kicking game, a passable long kicking game and his decision making is probably the strongest part of his game, knows when and where to distribute and when to run.

He finished last season off with some terrible form but so did quite a few other Raiders, it's certainly not enough to dismiss a career of over 100 first grade games.

Compare that to Hunt who's proven to be nothing but a dud in the halves for the majority of his first garde career to date and taking a punt on a couple of reserve garders. Yeh he really would improve your halves.

It depends. If Barba turns out to be a quality five-eighth then no, McCrone would not be desirable at the Broncos.

  14. Magic AJ Parker

Yeh if Barba turns out to be a quality 5/8, Hunt turns out to be a top halfback, McCullough finds some ability and Hoffman doesn't leave then Yeh I suppose there's a case to be made.

  15. Maroon_Faithful M Faithful

Yeah, cause McCrone is really a top quality halfback isn't he? :confused1:

What does McCullough have to do with the halves? Oh you're saying if McCrone played hooker our halves would improve? Okay then...

Hoffman leaving changes things obviously but that's a moot point with regard to my position.

  16. Magic AJ Parker

He's not far from it, even if that says more about the opposition than his ability it's still true imo.

There's nothing more crucial than getting good service from your hooker as a inexperienced half. Has less of an impact on the more experienced players but as an inexperienced half just starting out (which is what Hunt, Barba & Strasser all will be), not having your decision making time cut down because of shit service is crucial.

He's already out the door... I think you're being extremely optimistic. And it's really not going to be a hypothetical argument I'm going to get into becuase even if he does stay there's very little chance he'll be the fullback and Barba the 5/8.

  17. Alec AD Funkotron

He's probably not even going to be playing in the halves for Canberra. A rookie will take over instead.

He's better than Wallace and most of last year's Prince, but that's about it.

  18. Maroon_Faithful M Faithful

Well, we certainly disagree about that.

I agree. I just don't rate McCrone as a hooker as highly as you seem to. McCullough has issues with his service but so does McCrone.

I'm not being optimistic at all. It's my understanding that he's already signed with the Dogs. We're talking at cross-purposes on this point. My expressed caveat was if Barba turns out to be a decent five-eighth...I agree it's unlikely to happen and that's why it said it depends.

  19. Magic AJ Parker

I never said anything about McCrone at hooker, you came up with that on your own. I'm purely suggesting that if Brisbane's rookie halves are going to succeed then McCullough is going to need to find some ability.

Unlikely is an understatement. It's such a ridiculously low chance of him even finding himself at 5/8 to begin with ignoring his previous failures at 5/8 that the hypothetical isn't even worth talking about. It's like me saying Thurston would be a big improvement on the Bulldogs 5/8 and Rocks saying well not if Reynolds turns out to be the best player in the world.

    No shit.

  20. Maroon_Faithful M Faithful

Why do you need to make it sound like I'm fabricating straw man arguments? I wasn't sure what you meant. It seemed to me that you were implying McCrone would improve the halves if he was at hooker instead of McCullough.

Nah, it's really not that remote IMO.
