Meaning clubs would have to field several teams in the one age group?

I'm pretty sure having & funding local junior clubs is part of the conditions when clubs apply for an NRL license & our funding of the Central Coast competition is considered a secondary funding which is something the NRL has been trying to push all clubs to do and will likely be written into the criteria of the new licenses which are up for renewal next year.

It's all a little confusing and messy but from my understanding folding the junior clubs just isn't an option.

This is so fucking stupid. Sour grapes, nose biting and all that.

Who the fuck is running the show at Souffs juniors?

I'm not sure what you're getting at, but Copley at this stage at least would be a better centre than Mitchell. If anything I'd fuck off SKD and Toopoo; play Mitchell at fb, Copley and Fergo in the centres with Gordon and Manu in the flanks.

I think it's interesting that we made a big play for Lachlan Coote this year, ended up signing Michael Gordon for one season and are seemingly going to make a huge play for James Tedesco for 2018.

There were suggestions that Coote was being looked at as a 5/8 but seems to me like Robinson might think Mitchell's future lies in the centres.

I was just thinking indirectly perhaps. I mean if Copley's not there then maybe Robinson has to think about putting SKD back on the left. I suppose that's a moot point though if he thinks Mitchell's long term position is centre, then it doesn't really matter.

I don't get signing Gordon though. He along with SKD, Ferguson, Manu and Mitchell are all predominantly right side players are they not?

If they're going after Tedesco you'd have to think Mitchell is not viewed as a fullback in the long term.

GYR and Magic do you think you're contenders this year?

I had you as favs at the start and I still probably do tbh.

Everyone is blowing their wads over Melbourne but I still have Rooosters #1. Only 9 weeks into a new halves partnership and SST only just finding his feet again. I know GYR especially has a soft spot for SKD but him racking up coke as well as errors has potentially opened up your backline to genuinely gun it now IMO.

Oh man you have no idea how excited I am at the prospect of SKD finally leaving. It has needed to happen for a few years. The centre pairing of Latrell and Manu is very exciting.

I think we have the side to win the comp this year. Especially now that Guerra is benched, hopefully its the first step to dropping him permanently. However, I don't think we will win the comp. We have been a dumb team for a long time (since 2005 really). We make a lot of stupid errors and know how to instantly kill any momentum we have. In 2013-2015 we had the same issues, we were in the top 3 for errors in each of those 3 years and so far this year, we are sitting in 4th. However, the difference was that our defence was good enough to prevent teams from capitalising on them. I just don't have confidence in our ability to defend them this year. In 2013 we were 15th overall for missed tackles, in 2014 we were 13th on average PG with 23.5 and in 2015 we were 12th with 23.5 PG. So far this year we are sitting in 5th with an average of 32.2 PG.

If SST, JWH and Napa start up the guts do you think your other blokes can add enough impact off the bench to win the comp?

  11. GYR DW Lewis

Hmm it's a tough one. I feel like our bench is a bit of a mess with all the chopping and changing. The only two regulars have been Zane Tetevano and Connor Watson. Zane has been a nice surprise, plays on average about 30 minutes but still manages to pull in about 75 metres per game. Connor Watson who lets be real has been a disappointment. Yes he has not been given a lot of game time but in my opinion he is just not impactful from dummy half. In fact, some of his passing has not been up to NRL standard. The rest have chopped and changed between Liu, Carter, Aubo, Guerra, Evans.

    I think our best bench at the moment would be;

    14. Evans
    15. Tetevano
    16. Carter
    17. Watson (if not, then give Nat Butcher a run)

Will they provide the same go forward? Probably not, but we play our best on the back of 2nd phase play and I think they are all skilful enough to create it.

My biggest immediate concern is the balance of our spine, I think we're 1 ball player short.

We won a comp with fucking Mini at the back so we can definitely win one with Gordon playing there.

But Luke Keary just doesn't get enough possessions of the ball and it's clearly part of the game plan because his game is still pretty limited at the moment, he's a poor man's Maloney with a little more youth. But then there's no other options outside of him, Gordon can't ball play, we don't have any ball playing centres and we don't have any ball playing second rowers (Well not really, I think Matterson could quite easily shift from lock to second row and offer that).

It's resulted in Jake Friend taking on a little more of the organisational duties which has taken away from his own game. He's literally averaging just over 1 run a game at the moment which is fucking embarrassing for a dummy half.

    The forward depth is stacked, I think we're more than covered there although I disagree with you GYR our best bench IMO is;

    14. LIu
    15. Tetevano
    16. Matterson
    17. Watson

Really need to get the balance of our spine right but unless Wests want to release Tedesco early I just don't see that happening this season. Connor Watson was sent to reserve grade 2 weeks back to play fullback so I think it's definitely something Robinson is aware of I just don't know what the solution is or how he intends to solve it.

  13. GYR DW Lewis

Oh yeah I forgot about Matterson.

  14. Cribbage RG Cribb

Yeah, spot on IMO. You mentioned Minichiello but you got away with that because of SBW. Mini rarely got the ball in ball-playing positions and when he did it was never in as close as second receiver. Gordon can work as a fullback but just not with the current structure. The halves are pretty to watch when they link up but it's too easy to set a defensive lineup when the only two competent ball players are on one side of the field.

  15. Toolman TR Man

they could attempt Matterson as a ball playing 2nd rower to add something different.

  16. Cribbage RG Cribb

I'd be more tempted to play Watson at fullback, especially now that you don't have to pick SKD anymore, but yeah this is worth thinking about.

  17. Maroon_Faithful M Faithful

Well I guess it's by default but Mitchell is back. Reckon he'll have a big game. Parra's right side is a sieve.

  18. GYR DW Lewis

So apparently we are playing the Eels tomorrow for the Chad Robinson cup. Does that mean the winner will be the team who goes missing first? #toosoon?

  19. Magic AJ Parker

I remember back in 2013 when we beat the Dogs without all of our Origin stars it really struck me that we were genuine contenders.

For exactly the same reason the loss to Canberra leaves me thinking that barring a dream run with injuries and a few things falling our way we aren't a genuine shot this year.

There's a lot to be said for team's who can win against all odds.

That game was there for the taking and we butchered it.

  20. Magic AJ Parker

In saying that how fucking gun is Matto. Genuinley reckon we should shift Aubbo out to the centres.

    11. Cordner
    12. Matterson
    13. Taukeiaho

After he got some minutes under his belt he would be part of the best backrow in the game come next year IMO.
