Alberto Aquilani could be an interesting signing for us, from what I know I regarded him more of an attacking midfielder more then anything.

Anyone give some more background on him? Looking at MP or someone like that.

i think he is a genuine CM, he will get forward and back, more of a stylish player than anything, you wont see him flying into tackles like mascherano, mind you xabi never did that... he seems a straight replacement for xabi and if he settles in england could be a very good signing.

No I genuinely think youl do better than you're saying.

Looking at the others theres obviously the big and thenEverton who will be up there, then you have Villa who won't do as well as they did last season losing Barry who is a huge influence. Tottenham who carry so many injury problems through their defence and never seem to fulfill their potential, although maybe Bassong's arrival will help that.

Apart from that I dont see many others competing. Maybe West Ham, Wigan and Fulham have the potential to throw a spanner in the works but although I think City will start slow we will be in top 6 or 7 at least.

As far as Iv seen hes more of one of those technical clever players rather than an in-your-face DM. Bit of a passer. He's only 25 so could become a good player for you but I dont see him adapting to the PL, plus his troublesome ankle.... will have to see. It's interesting.

  7. Riddy JH Ridd

yeah, whether he can handle the physical side, i dont know...

I think people are missing a trick here. We were the 5th best attacking side in the league last season statistically (and I'm fairly sure no-one who watched us play would argue), but we were ranked 17th in defense. So far we've improved massively going forward and almost not at all in defense. Even if we land Lescott, we still have backup I do NOT feel confident relying on to compete. I love Dunne like a brother but his performances in pre-season have me seriously questioning him, though I'm prepared to let that slide for now and see how he goes.

Then there's the RB position, which we have both Micah and Zab for. Zab is too slow for a full-back and has very poor delivery going forward. He's beaten by everyone with a lick of speed and hence is a liability as a fullback as most wingers are pacey. He'll play some midfield this season. Richards is quick but honestly, he's even worse going forward than Zab and struts around like he ****ing owns the world. He hasn't put in an ounce of effort since making his first England squad and ****ing that slut in a toilet with his mate.

We're going to ship goals galore this season, and some may say "you'll score plenty" but that's not certain.

Ade: Scores in spurts, misses many chances.
RSC: as if he won't spend the whole season injured
Tevez: amazingly hard worker and solid player but never better than a 1-in-3 guy.
Robby: woefully inconsistent at times, prone to missing the easiest of chances (Liverpool at Eastlands, anyone? missed an open net from <1m out).
Bellamy: see RSC and combine it with Tevez.

So honestly, I'm not sure we can afford to concede at least a goal a game and still win, ESPECIALLY away from home.

stephen ireland will chip in with a few goals as well! also SWP will get a few to back up the strikers...

Yes but you have improved your defence.

With the amount of attacking talent you have Richards (who should play ahead of Zab) can stay back, and he doesnt need to go forward. You bought in Given and Bridge in january last season which has helped imeasurably, plus Toure is a huge signing.

Lets not forget that with Barry moving into the midfield Kompany will move back and play in defence where he belongs and Tevez will win you alot of ball on the half way line with his energy. So I dont think youl be that weak at the back at all.

Sure your strikers may be inconsistent but i highlydoubt you will have 5 strikes out of form all at the same time. Your depth in that area is phenominal in that you dont have to rely on one triker whos not scoring.

Valencia looked great at the football last night. Ferdinand has his best game of pre season and Owen could of scored 4.

Ireland will score, and I'm not worried about scoring per se, I was just pointing out that there are flaws going forward as well.

And honestly, where will SWP play? He doesn't make my starting lineup, that's for sure. He'll interchange with Ireland (if we don't buy a replacement for Elano) and perhaps a bit with Tevez, but he won't be first choice.

I'd call City for 6th - 9th IMO. I'd expect them to achieve a euro spot but I just don't see them nudging ahead, a wildcard team like Villa, Tottenham, Everton will still surpass them to reasons unknown.

Lescott worth 22m? I dont think so.

Aquilani isn't a like for like replacement of Alonso, he doesn't have nearly the same range of passing. CBA to comment on City on my mobile as my phone has no battery and would probably die mid post :D

Enough to jump from 17th to 4th? I don't think so Tim.

Assuming we play 4-1-2-2-1 then we will definitely need the RB and LB to get forward as much as possible. Especially for Ade and RSC playing in the center. Tevez, SWP and Robinho cannot cross, and they will be playing the wings, so therefore we need them to come from somewhere. Bridge is a great crosser of the ball, but Richards and Zab are terrible.

Barry will not play as the DM, he will play LCM and slip into LB when Bridge is going forward. De Jong will start the season at the base of midfield, perhaps replaced/rotated with Kompany (after he returns from injury) and Zabaleta (if he loses form).

    I don't disagree, I was just making a point.

Who have you got in the centre then. Id put Barry and Ireland in there and let SWP play right.

  18. Prince SHOES DP Smith

The side I see lining up:

    Richards-Toure-?-Bridge
    de Jong
    Ireland-Barry
    Tevez-Robinho
    Adebayor.

You dont need to have the 4th ebst defence, and I think you will be surprised at how high you jump, especially if you get Lescott. Your defence with Lescott will be better than Evertons at any rate.

Yes I agree you dont have a RB who can cross but balls coming from Bridge will suffice. You dont have to play a crossing game... with one man in the middle it wont necesarily work. And Tevez and Robinho arent great in the air.

Ye De Jong, Barry and Ireland will make up the midfield 3 IMO. That lets SWP play right with Robinho left.

    Fair enough.

    Tevez > SWP Blunder.
