Yeah the ratings are always laughable.

    Thaiday should get a 2.

One of the other things I forgot was the first QLD penalty goal. Fucking Tony Williams running and almost getting taken out before throwing the worst sort of hospital ball to Jennings which lead to a turn-over. First tackle after points. What a fucking muppet.

    great op mf.

Cost us the game with that stupid wide running kickoff play. That was the moment I knew we were going to lose.

  5. Cribbage RG Cribb

I see you did get around to that.

I do think both sides were hobbled by not having replacement dummy-halves. As good as Smith and Farah were this series, both forward packs would've been raped by a Kurt Gidley or a Shaun Berrigan/Cherry-Evans. NSW in particular really missed Gidley.

EWS, what did you think of Parker playing in Harrison's stead on the left? I'm seriously worried, as I was before the game, that Harrison may get replaced.

I would honestly run with a backrow of Myles, Parker and Harrison. Much better defenders than Thaiday, and they make more metres too. I think Sam off the bench would be better. He can still come on and use that inside/outside ball to Slater or Inglis, late in a match.

Yeah I don't know why either team thinks having two bench second rowers who play about 45 minutes between them is worth more to the team than fresh legs out of dummy half against tired middle third forwards.

He was infinitely better than I thought he'd be as an edge player tbh. When he played the role for Brisbane a few years back he definitely had a tendency to rush up in defence and make some bad decisions so I was excited when I saw that it was him and not Myles playing on the edge, but he handled it all very well. That said, for a team with six fringe-running second rowers in it and a halfback whose MO at club level is to play short to second rowers on the edges, we really didn't try short balls to Scott/Bird/Creagh/Watmough/Williams/Lewis nearly enough.

Thaiday's not going to get dropped but I don't think Harrison will either. Petero's retiring which means Myles pushing up into the front row rotation is very possible, and you still have Te'o and Gillett in the team as it is.

Yeah that's true. I wouldn't mind it except for the fact that I don't think it would do Myles's confidence any good to drop him to the bench after winning the Lewis medal the year before. As well as wanting him to start and play long minutes. I wouldn't be that averse to it though as he did a fantastic job off the bench replacing front rowers back in 2008. He's more than capable.

I certainly don't want to see Taylor back in the side that's for damn sure. Hopefully it'll be:

    8.Scott
    10.Shillington
    11.Harrison
    12.Thaiday
    13.Parker

    14.Impact hooker
    15.Hannant
    16. Myles
    17.Gillett

Well it's not written in stone that Shillington has to start.

Or you could even follow NSW's lead and start with three of your front rowers..

True. Not sure I'd start Myles up front though. Shillo did a great job starting back in 2010 and Myles never has, not that the role is really any different.

Yeah still can't believe that. And then when Creagh went straight off with a head gash they bring on Williams. So they drop a prop for a one-dimensional backrower and then use him as the replacement for the second rower who's supposed to be the replacement for a prop.

I'd take Srama or Kingston in a second off the bench for NSW. Can't believe Gillett got such a good run of it this series.

The way we selected that team, Creagh was never going to spend any time in the back row at all. So it's not that Stuart thought he could use Creagh for a short stint up front as well as play in the back row, or that he thought the second rowers needed more fresh interchange; he just legitimately decided that the best man to come off the bench and play in the front row was Creagh. That was his only role; he wasn't just filling in there for team balance reason - he was just flat out picked as a front rower. Defies belief.

Another negative about taking 4 backrowers on the bench is that Bird only ended up playing 57 minutes. He was arguably the best player on the field in Game 2 and is a great Origin forward so Stuart goes and cuts his minutes back. It's absurd.

Well at least I don't have to keep trying to think of a fit New South Welshman who could play that role anymore; it was seriously annoying me that I couldn't find one I was happy with. Gidley will be fit next year and we'll be an infinitely better side for it. Queensland will pick four forwards again IMO and it'll be something we can really take an advantage with.

Yeah, Srama would've been very handy.

Gillett was even worse than Thaiday, and I don't even know what his role is in the side. I'd go as far as calling him the worst QLD player this series.

    Fairly certain Srama's a QLDer

He knows that. That was the point.
