If you could change one thing...

Fans and pundits who make such a massive deal about diving. It's the biggest non-issue ever.

And for some reason, defenders that go to ground easily seem to escape any condemnation whatsoever.

    So much this.

From my (as we've established previously, uninformed) opinion, enforcing a foreigner cap would probably see a similar thing happen to what is evident in Spain and Germany, as GF mentioned, which is that the top teams have most of the top local players between them. I know it's also happened in South Africa, and happens in most leagues where there is a definite top tier of teams.

The thing is, the top English footballers are quite frankly not good enough to keep the EPL at anywhere near the level it's at. They don't have enough quality players - the reason the EPL maintains its status as the most competitive league in the world is precisely because they have heaps of quality foreigners.

So basically, you'd be making the EPL a much, much worse league, which in turn wouldn't help with the development of those English players that actually are up there with the best in the world.

This could resultantly either make the top players - your Rooneys, Gerrards, Lampards, Harts etc - consider breaking the language barrier, just as the current foreigners do, in search for definitively better football, which would further deplete the English league and as a result worsen the sport in the country in general; or it would mean that the elite would just stagnate as players, finding the competition too easy, and struggle when faced with quality internationally.

    Money.

Rangers supplied more players than any other club to England's Italia 90 squad; the European ban played a part in Rangers being able to attract the top English players to Scotland, but pre-Premier League we were also the richest club in the UK. Plenty of that England squad played or would play abroad as well at some point, because the money on offer in France, and particularly Italy, at the time was better than what they could earn in England.

Why bother moving abroad when you can earn more money playing in England?

Doesn't stop people coming here though. If it's a move that will benefit both your football career and bank balance, you'd hope most would be more than happy to work on their Spanish, or whatever language they're going to need to use.

There is less taxation on wages in most of Europe though isn't there, so couldn't you theoretically make more money even if the club pays you less?

It's up to the player though, eventually. You'd hope a young potential England player wouldn't mind losing a few thousand a week if it means he'll be a regular starter in a league like La Liga or the Bundesliga rather than a bench warmer in the Prem.

Other top European teams haven't really benefitted from players going abroad, apart from the really good ones that make it to Barca or Madrid. The bulk of players in the Spain, Germany and Italy squads play at home and the scattering of Dutch players around the continent may have improved their individual players but it's made it very difficult for them to build a functional team.

I'd like to see English players go abroad more just to see how they did but I don't think it would improve the national side.

I would bring in a ruling stating that the 2012-13 season ended on January 19th 2013.

I'd go with Sergeant Bash for footballers.

    Less diving.

If I traded it all, if I gave it all away for one thing, just for one thing.
If I sorted it out, if knew all about this one thing, wouldn't that be something?

Actually, remove the referee and make it call your own fouls.

    haha, gun song.

No holds barred tackling. Would eliminate the dive from the game as an issue and mean your forwards can't be princesses.

Turns me off the game. I can appreciate why players dive, but the two minutes of rolling around clutching at your ankle and waiting for the stretcher, only to run straight back onto the field is pathetic.

I of course don't watch soccer for the 'toughness' of the game, it's for the finess, skill and excitement. But watching a grown man carry on like that is just too much.

It's almost embarrassing seeing phaggots roll around for a few minutes in 'pain' after they've already won a free kick.

Best idea yet. I've wondered for ages why it's a solution we're yet to adopt to stop time-wasting. There's no way injury time is a fair and consistent solution.

Putting fair people in charge of UEFA & FIFA.

yeah i remember seeing a stat ages ago that the ball is only 'in play' for a third of the game. the rest is waiting for goal kicks, throw ins, subs, etc etc.

Agree, I'd change it to 2 halves of 30 minutes, clock stops when the ball goes out of play, and have a rugby style siren where the game finishes once the ball's out of play.
