I wasn't trolling either though. As an outsider looking in, it's a change that I think would make me more interested in the sport.

I'm assuming you mean you're only allowed to score from inside the area with a header? Rather than goals from headers are only allowed inside the area. Cutting out that valuable scoring resource of outside of the box headers.

thought it would be fairly explanatory tbh

take the england cricket team as example.

You've got 20 fucking teams in the Premier League though; surely you don't actually need 180 players playing to form a decent England side. All your suggestion would do would dilute the standard the competition, and make the football the blokes who actually are good enough to be in contention for England less meaningful.

 how many first class counties are there?!

sure there would be a drop in standard for a bit, but sacrifices have to be made for the greater good.....

Yes and if you banned anyone not born in England from playing county cricket then the standard of county cricket would go down, the standard of the English cricket side would go down and even the quality of the English-born players in the English cricket side would be lower because they'd have not been exposed to a decent standard of cricket before their introducing internationally.

There's no greater good there though. It would accomplish absolutely nothing. There are no positives out of it. Unless you get yourselves into a situation where there are only 10 English players in the entire Premier League, then if you're not good enough to make a Premier League squad you're certainly not good enough to play for England either. And actual England hopefuls are going to develop their games far better against internationals than they are the 180th best player from England.

You wouldn't make the English team better by forcing domestic teams to only have English players

England cricket is completely different because most of the big cricket they play is as an England team, they're a unit by that. They're a country team first and then county players.

    In Division One? Nine.

didnt say get rid off all overseas players did i?

and second paragraph... there is a greater good. english players who have the talent but currently arent getting much game time (jonjo shelvey, jordan henderson, Wilfred Zaha next season, Josh Mceachran, Connor wickham, god theres so many i could name), they will benefit. youth players getting more gametime, in better facilities with better coaches/managers will only be a good thing.

The England side right now is much, much better than the early 1990s vintage.

Cribb's point still stands. All of those guys could probably start in the premier-league at some club - they just choose to stay where they are. And if they weren't good enough to start anywhere, they're not English quality.

If an England quality player isn't getting enough game time, then he can always move to one of the many clubs in the world where he'll play every week. Really don't understand why so few English players don't play overseas.

ok ok i can see people disagree with me. its just my opinion and i think it would benefit our players. but hey not everyone is going to agree.

Only total idiots and closet xenophobes ever try to crack that limiting the number of foreigners would improve the national team. All of the theoretical arguments for it are embarrassing logic-fails and no empirical evidence supports it either.

I'd punish the most obvious deliberate fouls to stop counter-attacks with red cards. Or I'd shorten the length of the game and stop the clock when the ball's out of play.

    Language barrier, surely?

  19. Furball G Furball

    It doesn't benefit English players.

The biggest issue, if you're looking at it from a national team perspective, is that there's too few English players at the best clubs.

Off the top of my head, Barcelona and Real Madrid between them have Valdes, Casillas, Ramos, Albiol, Arbeloa, Puyol, Pique, Jordi Alba, Xabi Alonso, Xavi, Busquets, Cesc, Iniesta, Thiago, Callejon, Villa and Pedro who can all pull on the Spanish jersey.

Bayern Munich and Borussia Dortmund have Neuer, Weidenfeller, Lahm, Boateng, Badstuber, Hummels, Schmelzer, Schweinsteiger, Kroos, Gundogan, Kehl, Bender, Leitner, Muller, Reus, Goetze and Gomez who can pull on the German shirt.

There's nothing like that sort of English talent at the top English clubs. Restricting foreigners might mean more English players playing in the Premier League but it won't necessarily mean better English players.

    It's not a problem.
