    What?

It's not really misleading, but it doesn't really mean very much. It's trying to hard too be an analytical hybrid stat that covers too many things, but in the end isn't very useful.

Average age of the squad would be a much better statistic to look at from a club's future point of view.

Yes it's trying to get at "giving youth a chance" but there's so many external factors that affect it (injuries, playing youngsters at the end of the season, etc.) that it's basically meaningless.

True, but on the other hand a team that's been playing with established 20-24 year olds for a number of years doesn't really show anything either - other than they've got longevity. Development is more about bringing people through as much as anything. I think one season on it's own doesn't necessarily tell us much but looking at a 3 year moving average over time would be interesting

I think the other problem is that it only looks at when they're first come into the team. I think it'd be more interesting to look at the average age of players by the time they'd made 10 appearances for the club (starts and substitutions)/

Yeah maybe. Weeds out the one hit wonders at the end of the season, or who are parachuted in before they're ready during an injury crisis

Exactly, that's what I meant by misunderstand. Not that people would misunderstand what it measures but it's actual relevance to anything which is zilch.

  7. Jager LO Townsend

To clarify my comments earlier in the thread, I hate Ashley with a passion, even as a supporter of another team. Not sure whether he'd leave if Newcastle were relegated, but surely it'd damage his business model which depends on the club having relevance in the BPL. Hopefully he will if it happens.

He stayed last time they went down didn't he? Granted, I've no idea if his objectives have changed since then

  9. cpr CP Raftery

Only because he couldn't find a buyer at the time.

  10. Furball G Furball

He won't find a buyer this time unless he's prepared to write off the mountains of debt he's saddled Newcastle with.

I know loads of people who went to the Argyle leg. The atmosphere there was incredible too. Been a huge buzz around the City for the playoffs
