This is the side I would have out of that squad that Capello has chosen.

    GK: Robert Green
    LB: Ashley Cole
    CB: Rio Ferdinand
    CB: John Terry
    RB: Glen Johnson
    LM: Ashley Young
    CM: Gareth Barry
    CM: Frank Lampard
    RM: Steven Gerrard
    ST: Jermain Defoe
    ST: Wayne Rooney

    SUBS:
    Paul Robinson
    Joleon Lescott
    Matthew Upson
    Michael Carrick
    Theo Walcott
    Shaun Wright-Phillips
    Peter Crouch

IMO, it's proven that Gerrard and Lampard can't play together in midfield. One just completely tries to take over the game. I'd have Lampard paired with Barry (with Barry in more of a holding style role) and Gerrard out on the right where he has proven himself before for England.

Carrick and Barry are interchangable IMO. I don't really care which one of them is the one partnering Lampard in midfield. They're both very good.

As for Beckham, he either starts or he doesn't play at all. He's got his 100th cap now ... it's time for Wright-Phillips to be given an extended run.

I know Beckham is sort of an institution in itself. Bigger than the game to some people.

But honestly there aren't many better than him at what he does even at this point of his career, hence being chased so hardly by one of the world's premier clubs.

    Umm.

    Wut.

I AWTA. He's still a class player, he just needs class players around him to shine nowadays. He can't be a one man team anymore. Beckham > SWP in pretty much every way besides pace. Although I don't rate SWP well at all, I think he's shithouse.

i think beckham should start on the right in a 5 man midfield... gerrard and lampard supporting rooney with barry holding.

You're in the same boat as my Dad then. He's a Chelsea fan and he's never rated SWP and always thought that Chelsea paid too much for him in the first place.

For me though, Beckham is getting old and it just wouldn't be right to have him on the bench ... he's a starter and I feel SWP brings more impact to the England bench. Just my opinion.

I can see Theo playing on the right and Capello playing Gerrard on the left (like he has been doing for the last couple of games) Heskey with Rooney has CF

Theo Walcott is included in the England Under-21 squad for next month's European Championships, despite the fears of Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger.

Walcott, 20, who is also in the senior squad for World Cup qualifiers, could suffer burnout, Wenger has warned.
He says the winger will only have one week's rest before pre-season begins if England win the Under-21 tournament.
Walcott was out for four months this season after injuring himself on international duty last year.
His inclusion in the 23-man squad for the competition in Sweden is seen as a victory for England Under-21 manager Stuart Pearce, who has pushed for the inclusion of players eligible for the senior squad.

I've every confidence in this squad. We're looking forward to competing with the best

    Stuart Pearce

Earlier this week Wenger said Walcott should not play for both the seniors and Under-21s this summer.
"I have let the Football Association know that he shouldn't play in both national teams during the holiday period," said the Arsenal boss.
"The basic problem, is can you use a player for two different national teams during the holiday period?"
Walcott injured his shoulder in a training session before England's friendly win over Germany last November and was out for four months, much to the anger of Wenger.
The winger had scored a hat-trick for the senior side in a World Cup qualifier in Croatia two months earlier.
The Under-21 squad includes Aston Villa striker Gabriel Agbonlahor and Manchester City defender Micah Richards, who have also featured in the senior team.
Pearce said: "I have every confidence in this squad. We are really looking forward to competing with the best under-21 teams in Europe, and hopefully, doing our country proud with our performances. It should be a fantastic tournament."

England Under-21 squad: Joe Hart (Manchester City), Joe Lewis (Peterborough), Scott Loach (Watford); Martin Cranie (Portsmouth), Kieran Gibbs (Arsenal), Michael Mancienne (Chelsea), Nedum Onuoha (Manchester City), Micah Richards (Manchester City), Andrew Taylor (Middlesbrough), Steven Taylor (Newcastle), James Tomkins (West Ham); Lee Cattermole (Wigan), Andrew Driver (Hearts), Craig Gardner (Aston Villa), Adam Johnson (Middlesbrough), James Milner (Aston Villa), Fabrice Muamba (Bolton), Mark Noble (West Ham), Jack Rodwell (Everton); Theo Walcott (Arsenal), Gabriel Agbonlahor (Aston Villa), Frazier Campbell (Manchester United), Danny Welbeck (Manchester United).

    For The Win.

Personally I wouldn't name him, although his experience is invaluable so I could see him getting selected.

I don't want him. He's unfit and has barely played 3 games all season which is not good when you consider his age.

surely england will play a 5 man midfield and rooney up top on his own?

  19. Speirz DG Speirs

Realistically, how often do England play anything other than a 4-4-2? They might claim it's a 4-4-1-1 or even a 4-5-1, but it ineivatably turns out practically the same.

  20. Riddy JH Ridd

yeah, but apart from rooney, we are really struggling for a world class striker atm.. i hope gerrard gets his liverpool role and gets to support rooney
