Yeh origin doesn’t have the same hype and feel it used to even 5yrs ago when you just knew it was going to be a brawl but as a spectacle for Rugby league fans it certainly still has a lot to like.

Ruck penalties are such a joke these days anyways, we got 4 ruck penalties; one on 1st tackle and three on 2nd tackle. The whole penalty within the 40 and 6 again outside has made the 6again call pretty much redundant as an infringement. You 100% give up those extra 1 or 2 tackles here or there as a side to lie in the ruck a little longer knowing the ref is only going to blow so many…

I can see us picking Capes there in G2 now...

    Cotter - 120m, 51 tackles. Beast.

To do that on debut is very impressive.

Hopefully not. Oates straight in for Coates.

The whole attitude of the Qld team under Slater feels like Bennett in 2020. The scramble in defence, the straight hard running. The committment to playing as a team. You could just tell they were more up for it and willing to play at that super high standard for longer than NSW.

    Very different from last year.

I dont think iver ever seen a game that was so middle dominant. Seemed to me neither team had more than a set or two on the opposition line at a time. Dont remember a single dropout forced either.

All our Debutants except probably Nanai were great. He was solid, though it was evident that injury interrupted his performance.

Only fault I could find in Cotter is how he was handling the ball in his eagerness for a quick play-the-ball. For some reason the way he uses the ball to get to his feet while he is still getting worked in the tackle looks really precarious. He even got picked up for an error while doing it (though if he had a review in the pocket maybe we'd get it back). Other than that he was excellent.

Carrigan were awesome off the bench. I was a little concerned how he'd would go off the bench as he is more of an accumulator than an impact player. But he kind of played both roles. We didn't miss a beat when he replaced Papa after the opening exchanges and I think he stayed on for the rest of the game after that. I wouldn't mind seeing Carrigan getting 2 stints on the bench in this arena though, he can be put in the chair a bit when he gets tired. Teddy found him out a few times towards the end of the game.

Cobbo played as expected. The kid could be anything.

Obviously not a debutant, but Papa was huge too. He only played 22 mins, but you could tell everything he did hurt.

Hopefully. But fuck me, we need to find another centre. Holmes is just so good on the wing.

Slater's already said it'll be either Fidow or Taulagi. As long as its not Capewell at centre I dont mind who they pick.

A few years ago it looked like Tuala was going to break out into being a good centre, but he nosedived hard and can barely make the Knight's 17 now. He's still young so he has time, just a shame it hasn't happened.

Staggs' injury will probably only reinforce in Fittler's mind that carrying a centre on the bench is a good idea.

Interesting to see who draws the short straw out of Wighton and Mitchell to shift right side for Game 2.

lol Carrigan off the bench with 183m from 19 runs.

Dunno if they'll pick Latrell. He doesn't exactly come back from stints away in good form or fitness, and I don't know if he will even get a game in before game 2?

You think Staggs will get dropped unless forced out through injury? Biggest thing against Staggs is the fact he needs to be brought into the game by those around him. He never really moves outside of his corridor.

Freddy has a few hard things to consider over the next couple of weeks.
Bring in Latrell. Keep Staggs? Wighton on the bench? Keep Crichton?
Pick Mitchell, Drop Staggs, switch Wighton to the right? Bench utility?

Then there's Sims and Matterson who did nothing to warrant retention.

Apparently he's come back fitter than ever. Remains to be seen though.

Its a risk that has to be taken. Hes the best centre in the world on his day.

Not surprised in the ratings drop, I think viewership around Origin will continue to drop over the next decade.

As I said still a great game to watch for those who love Rugby League, the intensity of play is something else but for the neutrals or casuals it's lost that intense rivalry/trash talk/violence that was so synonymous with State of origin.

Yeah I'd drop Staggs regardless of injury or not. I rate him but Latrell cant not be picked imo. He'll get 1 game before Origin 2. Assuming he doesnt look utter gash, you have to risk it with the series on the line. Bloke was the best player in Origin last year. Itd be like us not picking Inglis. If hes fit he should be there.

demographic change. our country is like 75% indian/chinese/nepali/filipino. they don't give a fuck about origin.
