Yeah, I mean otherwise no Falou and Robshaw ahead of McCaw is padded cell time. Still think McCaw should've made it based on their Nov form anyway, ftr, but Robshaw didn't make me pine for a proper open side as much as he has previously.
He's possibly the best since Peter Winterbottom, who really stood out to me on the 1983 Lions tour to NZ (showing my age there). It's a position that England has struggled with in recent times. I remember you had that midget Neil Back playing for several years lol.
Mccaw > hooper especially at the breakdown. Pocock could conceivably take his place were he to come back
TBF Robshaw outplayed him in the last test, so make of that what you will. Rate Hooper very highly, but wouldn't swap McCaw for him. & Neil Back was quality. Dirty little cheat, but that's kinda what 7s do.
Hooper is great in the open and makes a ton of tackles but I am willing to wager his breakdown turnover stats are lower than mccaws and pococks. I would have hooper in a heartbeat over Warburton but I would also have Sam cane over Warburton so that isn't saying much. Hooper is in the top 5 7s in the world and you could apply the world class tag to him but mccaw even At this stage of his career is simply the goat That fact is widely acknowledged in most rugby circles.
Trying to find some turnover/breakdown stats but it's proving difficult. What is known is that McCaw was one of only two All Blacks to play all 240 minutes of their three games this autumn, winning a team-joint-high four turnovers and making more carries than any other Kiwi forward (33). He was also named ahead of Hooper in Jeremy Gusgott's Rugby Championship XV from the Autumn internationals here . I think even Hooper himself would readily admit that McCaw is still top dog tbh. Having said that Australia have always produced outstanding 7s.
I think McCaw is in incredibe form. Maybe Hooper stands out more because he is on such a shit team. Even if McCaw is better Hooper certainly is on the same tier, he stole A LOT of ball in the rugby championship
NZ Herald XV of the year: http://m.nzherald.co.nz/sport/news/article.cfm?c_id=4&objectid=11368554&ref=nzhs_tw 1. Marcos Ayerza (ARG) 2. Dane Coles (NZ) 3. Ramiro Herrera (ARG) 4. Brodie Retallick (NZ) 5. Richie Gray (SCO) 6. Chris Robshaw (ENG) 7. Richie McCaw (NZ) 8. Kieran Read (NZ) 9. Aaron Smith (NZ) 10. Handre Pollard (SA) 11. Julian Savea (NZ) 12. Jamie Roberts (WAL) 13. Tevita Kuridrani (AUS) 14. Ben Smith (NZ) 15. Israel Folau (AUS) Feel like putting Pollard in ahead of Sexton on the basis that he had two big games against the All Blacks, who Sexton didn't play, and that he apparently has "bottle" and Sexton doesn't despite the fact he was in complete control of all his games this autumn.
If we're talking outside bets for the tournament then Scotland could be a value shout to go to the semis. We're developing quite nicely, Glasgow are developing a real winning culture which helps and the entire backline from 10 to 15 play together at club level.
Rate Pollard very highly, but the mere fact that he was dropped for the test versus us when SA had decided they would revert to a kicking game after their loss against Ireland suggests doubts over his game management persist. Think Gray's only there off the back of a good game v NZ too.
