Road to World Cup 2015

Form is a pretty harsh judge a year out. Especially when trying to talk up Ireland, who were all over the place in 2013.

For Ireland to win they'd probably need to be England at HQ and it's been a long time since they've managed that. Contenders certainly, but not ahead of England in England as far as I see.

Goal kicking is our issue at this stage. I also think that the emergence of carter makes it difficult to give any one stand off good consistent game time next year in the build up.

England will go from favourites to longer odds with a couple of injuries to crucial backs

I am discounting Wales as I think they kick too much. I will put them back in the reckoning if anscombe takes the reigns and leads more balanced play

This tour has been a set back for South africa. I would need an sa fan like droos or quaggas to point out where they have gone wrong

I don't know what to make of Ireland. I will give them equal billing with England if they win the 6 nations again

The Guardian's power rankings after the Autumn Internationals.

    1. New Zealand
    2. Ireland
    3. South Africa
    4. England
    5. Australia
    6. Wales
    7. Argentina
    8. France
    9. Scotland
    10. Samoa

  4. Howe JHF Howe

Argentina over France jumping the gun a bit given that they also got smashed by Scotland

Can't argue with the top 4. Though I might have France at 5. they always seem to turn up for the WC and they have the same potential run as Ireland. It's difficult to back the French though with their unpredicatbility

    15. Willie Le Roux (South Africa), 14. Tommy Bowe (Ireland), 13. Robbie Henshaw (Ireland), 12. Jean de Villiers (South Africa), 11. Jonny May (England), 10. Johnny Sexton (Ireland), 9. Aaron Smith (New Zealand), 8. Jamie Heaslip (Ireland), 7. Chris Robshaw (England, captain), 6. Jerome Kaino (New Zealand), 5. Paul O'Connell (Ireland), 4. Courtney Lawes (England), 3. Probably deliberately trying to rark us up tbh

Nah...one thing that is blatantly obvious as a kiwi in the UK is that there is a general delusion amongst English rugby fans tbh.

(The most amusing thing is that they honestly think they're in with a chance of winning the WC next year...

...and some sports fans here even think they have a chance in the cricket WC!)

They are in with a chance of winning the WC tbh. Home advantage is pretty big and it's not like they don't have any chance at all....just not outright winners on paper.

  17. Fiery GR Smith

    No chance.

It definitely looks like the article was caught in two minds as to whether or not it was trying to be a XV based of the Autumn Internationals (which I think makes some of the selections slightly more justified) or a current World XV.

Even here they don't seem to know whether they've selected a World XV or the best XV from the autumn internationals.
