Audited as in those disclosed to the NRL.

My example is a 3rd party agreement which doesnt fall under the accepted rules and as such isn't disclosed, hence there's no audit done into such transactions like that.

I'm normally against people calling out salary cap cheats when a team makes a signing, but this year the Roosters signings are pretty suspicious. I honestly have no idea how they are fitting in Crighton next year.

    Politis gives their partners "jobs".

I'd love to say it's because we don't sign players like Darius Boyd & Jack Bird on million dollar salaries but fuck Cooper Cronk has been a flop.

We've lost a shit load of players over the last few years and basically replaced them with nobodies or with talent internally.

SKD, Maloney, Guerra, Sonny Bill, Pearce, Moa, RTS, Jennings is a shit load of talent and salary cap to lose within the space of 3 years. With the majority being replaced by players like Manu, Matterson, Mitchell, Radley, Tetevano, Keary, Butcher & Fergo. Hardly bank breakers.

Crichton is a promising forward, people talking about him like we just signed Jason Taumalolo.

Signing Cronk without actually intending to offload Pearce raised a lot more red flags for me than signing Crichton. Pearce would've been on more than Crichton so if they didn't need to release Pearce this season to be compliant then signing someone like Crichton seems like nothing to me.

    Not necessarily.

I can imagine Pearce being on some kind of discounted deal following the dog incident, as well as likely having some kind of long-serving/junior player allowance.

Plus it also depends on when his deal was signed. The cap has inflated a fair bit of late so deals in % of cap terms have adjusted. I think it's very likely if not certain that Crichton's deal is greater than Pearce's salary for this year.

They've signed Crighton on 900k per year. No way was Pearce on more than that.

  8. Lukic L Popovic

Tough to say without figures being publicly disclosed though... would be so much better for the game.

  9. Magic AJ Parker

How would that help anything you're saying?

If like you say that cap is being rorted by non disclosed TPA payments then what does publishing figures publicly do other than highlight which clubs don't know how to manager their salary cap.

lol that leak from Shane Richardson got dismissed when he back tracked after pressure from members and he told Souths fans that their offer around 600k a season was 'more than competitive'.

    Fake news. Also it's Crichton*

Haha my group chat on Facebook with Gemmell, Taylor and Read has every possible spelling of Crichton in it other than the correct one. He's the new Fritzel, but probably unintentionally.

Even if true, they would've front-ended some deals this season after Pearce left and they replaced him with no-one.

If you think they could've signed Cronk no worries then Crichton isn't something new that deserves extra scrutiny. I went off the handle when they signed Cronk though, lol.

Players know what they're worth and they know the market.

A team can full well know its offered player X $300,000 so when they see that he's on Team Y's payroll for only $100,000 a year the league can action it.

It would also prevent shit like what happened at the Bulldogs, Parra or Manly from happening. It'd be much harder to breach something that's public knowledge than private and frankly shady affairs.

It wouldn't outright stop it from happening, but these suspicions would be much more concrete and easily identifiable.

  14. Lukic L Popovic

fk this no editing shit sucks.

It wouldn't stop the illicit TPA deals entirely, but it would bring some transparency.

What's the downside to a public salary cap? Obviously people would know player salaries and they nay want it private but that's about it.

  15. Magic AJ Parker

The downside is it'll just fuel more arguments and accusations about salary cap cheating.

As if SST is only on 400k when we're paying Russell Packer 600k a year. ETC.

There's this misconception that a salary reflects a players ability when in reality is just one factor out of a number of different variables. Two equal players simply signing their contracts in different seasons could fetch completely different salaries. There's enough dense discussion around the NRL as it is, lets not fuel any more.

  16. Lukic L Popovic

Not every player is going to be paid on a linear scale according to their ability though. Some deals will suck and some will still be good, at least we'll know what, why and how a player is being paid what they are rather than wondering why some teams can't afford anyone and other teams can field half a rep side. The idea is though that these hypothetical contracts that would lead to further accusations would be eliminated as players will go to the highest bidder. Teams and players will be in negotiations, fans will know this and as a result we'll know who's offering what.

The NBA and NFL have open salary caps and fans never question the integrity of deals. Teams and fans are well aware certain players get paid what they do, when they do.

Plus thats not necessarily what the response would be, it would be more that fans would be pissed at their team for paying overs. People are less likely to question a transparent number than a hidden one.

End of the day players would also have better leverage in negotiations and the market would be more efficient. There'd be less ridiculous steals and overpays and

  17. Lukic L Popovic

when they do happen, we'll know its because the player or team was in a good/bad spot.

  18. Boobidy BJ Gemmell

Definitely unintentional. Legit thought it was Crighton, never even thought about it possibly being anything else haha

  19. Cribbage RG Cribb

Crieghton and Creighton get a run fairly often in that chat too.

Chrichton and possibility of Woods/Tapau is just a shit strawberry on top of the shit cake. It was already fucked when they signed both Cronk and Tedesco at the same time on $1M+ deals.
