I belong to a radical, leftist political forum in which "big" words are commonly used. And in arguments I have on Youtube, and several others places. I don't deny that we're in the minority but that that minority is far greater than most are supposing is, to me, undeniable.

I think this opinion is not that far removed from what the majority of people on here think. It's very much like listening to Paris Hilton, in my opinion - Very, very little experience or acknowledgement outside your social bubble.

    Bhahaha.

I fail to see the humour in having a discussion in the comments section of Youtube. Quite a lot of them are a damn sight more lucid, instructive, cogent and thought-provoking than anything I've ever seen you post.

Tbf there are also a lot of 10 year olds posting random shit. It can be hard to find a proper conversation some times.

I can just imagine a lot of those 10 year olds getting the big dog all riled up, would have a field day I reckon.

Indeed. Very few ten-year-olds frequent most of the videos I do, though.

Do you seriously just spend every day debating with people over the internet?

The most intelligent people, and the best communicators, are the people who can say what they mean by using the fewest possible words.

It seems you can't do that. Make of that what you will.

I have no issues with what some people here seem to think are unusual words, they're not unusual to me. However you waffle on and say nothing with many words.

    Certainly not.

are people actually arguing that using big, complicated words = intelligence?

    seriously?

  13. Maroon_Faithful M Faithful

I don't make anything of it. I think it's complete bullshit. Brevity is no more a sign of intelligence than verbosity is a sign of stupidity.

I'd really love an example of this, if you could quote me one.

  14. Maroon_Faithful M Faithful

No. No one is arguing that. We all agree lengthy and obscure words are not a sign of intelligence.

Any one of your 19,000+ posts would probably suffice I reckon.

If you can't see how you can be more succinct than you are, then you're a lost cause.

I regularly speak to and with some of the greatest legal minds in Australia. These guys are nothing short of geniuses. However not once will you hear them waffle on with half of the shit you do, despite their vocab being no doubt 80 times the size of yours.

It's about to be pointed out that you didn't provide an example :p

What role do you have that allows for this, Benchy?

    Hardened criminal itbt.

I never said otherwise. I disputed the notion that brevity equals intelligence, and asked for an example of me "waffling on" without saying anything.

I'm confused. First you say, unlike many others on here, you have no problem with unusual words and that it's merely a lack of succinctness or incisiveness with which you take issue. And yet you end the post with a barb comparing the size of vocabularies between myself and a bunch of lawyers whom you consider to be geniuses.

    Wtf?
