    Oh sweet. My guy has a bit of a kick here and there although him being a fb and winger I thought I'd only see him kick while he was at fb. Good to hear it's stats based.

    Currently 1/60 chance of them happening at random in a sequence of open play. Given that the next play is often determined by the play that preceded it, the Grubber is highly unlikely. I will still programme it, but keep it pretty simple.

  3. Athlai JJD Heads

    Fair enough.

    Can see me scoring a try off a grubber in my first play now.

    Yeah, good example. Given your registration, you'd be a bit more likely than a pure winger to kick given your Tactical Kicking skill, but still less likely to kick if you're playing as a winger than as a full back.

    Sounds highly realistic. Awesome, very excited.

    Not sure if the topic of home advantage has been up and also weather conditions. Will it be included?

    Could be quite hard to implement home advantage but weather may be simple, increase in knock ons when it's wet, increase of out on the full kicks and forward passes when windy etc.

    Although I suppose you'd have to change the script every game.

    I am thinking of doing this. All I would change is having a different set of probability tables for each type of weather conditions to achieve exactly what you've said. Rain ---> More knock ons. Wind ---> Kick percentage becomes harder, kick distances from one end are increased, decreased from t'other etc.

    If it's relatively simple I'd recommend doing it. Would add a whole new dimension to the game. Coaches would really have to think about the correct squad depending on the weather.

  8. HeathDavisSpeed HT Davis

    That's the aim.

    Getting rucks right is the key now. I'm pretty happy with everything else so far, and really in the grand scheme of things, Grubbers and (to a lesser extent) Mauls are peripheral in the modern game.

    Surely the 22 has to play a huge part in whether you kick or not, and whether you kick for touch or kick upfield. If you kick for touch from inside your 22, you're far more likely to find touch because you can kick it out on the full. If you kick for touch from outside your 22, you're a lot less likely to successfully find touch because you can't put it out on the full, so you're more conservative with the kick. The issue then just becomes narrowing their angle as much as possible for the return punt.

    Yeah, rucks will be ablsolutely huge. I can see the presence/absence of backs in rucks being a big factor.

    Ahhhhhhh shit. I'd completely forgotten this, but actually I don't think this'll be a huge deal to fix.

    I've also had a brainwave with how to do rucks, though it'll almost be a seperate simulation away at the side due to how important it is and how detailed it needs to be.

  11. HeathDavisSpeed HT Davis

    I suspect it'll be making a difference depending on who the ball carrier is too. If they have a shit rucking skill, they'll get turned pretty easily if faced down by a couple of solid forwards.

    Rucks are pretty much working now.

    One thing though, what infringements can both teams suffer.

    1. Team with Possession When Ruck Formed

    Holding On ---> Penalty to Opposition

    2. Team without Possession When Ruck Formed

    Hands in the Ruck ---> Penalty
    Off Side ---> Penalty
    Incorrect Entry ---> Penalty

    Are there any other type of ruck infringements?

  13. Doog J McDougal

    Looaaaadsssssss of infringements. No idea of all of them off the top of my head (or even the most common for that matter). Rucking is the aspect I least understand.

  14. Baxter MJ Deane

    Going to ground deliberately
    Lying over the ball
    Playing the ball off your feet

    Don't forget the ball doesn't always come out of the ruck.

  15. HeathDavisSpeed HT Davis

    Ah jeez. Plenty of issues here. The only one that doesn't result in a Penalty though is if the ball doesn't come out then Scrum ---> team with possession?

    Realistically though, how often does the ball not come out of the ruck? 1/40? 1/50? Doesn't happen often, aye?

    Rucking another player. I think it'd be a great part of the sim if I could stand on someone's face.

  17. Rego RS Hutchinson

    Rucking ------> Hurt player
    Rucking ------> Possible penalty/ card
    Rucking ------> Ball retention

  18. Speirz DG Speirs

    Yeah, that's another thing to consider. Sin-bins and send-offs could have a big impact, but I imagine it'd be a bit hard to implement.

  19. Rego RS Hutchinson

    Considering we don't have discipline (or do we?)

    I don't think it'd be too hard to implement if we had a discolone rating that gradually goes up or down as we get more games under our belt.

  20. Speirz DG Speirs

    It'd be hard to figure out what impact it has on playing with 14 v 15 though.
