You pretty much just have to be a back with a minimum of 5 games under your belt in Rugby League, and you can play for Australia in Rugby Union. Dunno how many forwards converted though, but Brad Thorn is still fucking going 7 years after he retired from the NRL.
Well, consider me shattered after this news. I love Hayne playing for the Eels. I love watching the NFL. I want to say that I hope he does well over there, but I'm a selfish prick so I really hope he fails and comes back to us. Also, if he ends up playing for the Seahawks then I'll fucking hate his guts.
Yeah this. I'm torn on how I want him to go. On one hand I want him to succeed, on the other hand I want him to fail so he comes back.
Jarryd Hayne leaving and a bloke with 7 games potentially playing for Australia. What a great couple of days it's been for Rugby League.
A-league game in Sydney sold out and gonna have a higher attendance than any NRL game at the SFS in the past 7 years. Beginning of the end.
Yawn. Crowds are a poor measure of rugby league support; it's a TV game. I haven't gone to an NRL game in years and I'm avid fan.
Tahu, Sailor, Rogers... Plus we'd had loads: Henry Paul, Hape, Vainikolo, Mather, Chev Walker, Joel Tomkins and even Andy Farrell was never really at his best. Although he had no knees by the time he moved over. EDIT: & obviously Benji tanked pretty spectacularly too.
lol at Sailor and Rogers being failures hahahahahahaha. For those thinking of a forward convert; Saffy.
Both were very average union backs. Rogers best remembered for having his sternum rearranged by Josh Lewsey when England beat the Wobblies in Oz for the first time ever. Playing international rugby does not a success make; when the ARU splashes the cash to bring a player over it's very short odds they'll play tests. Australia only has 5 pro union sides and was fewer when Rogers was playing.
I didn't watch them play union so I don't know but I find it very hard to believe that two blokes who had 82 Tests between them were failures at the game.
Sailor and Rogers were definitely not failures. I don't know how you're measuring success but being mainstays in the Test side seem like a pretty good indicator to me.
Yeah it's all over SMH as well. It's just bizarre. I still can't believe it. To each his own though. I wish him the best but I do think it's not going to work out.
