Every year there's stories about how "Sharks will fold" or "Sharks have been saved".

I'll believe either one when it actually happens.

    It's happening.

Million a year isn't a massive amount tbh...

    Is there more to come??

  4. Frizzed WC Welker

Especially when you factor in the 12mill debt.

  5. Wilson SB Wilson

12mil debt is absolved. It was agreed that the contracting companies would pay it as part of the development cost. We're currently free of debt.

It's actually around 1.5mil a year for rent of the land until and after the devlopment is completed. Once completed we will get a percentage of the net profit each year.

    Recognise.

If they have also agree to get rid of the debt then it's a massive deal (didn't see any mention of that in the article). Although I only see it securing the club's future not making it a powerhouse.

Yeah, the article didn't mention it but it's been mentioned before and Irvine addressed it in a letter to the members.

Being financially stable, and comfortably as well is big enough for the moment. This stability will help players from turning away from signing which has been a big problem of late.

This will make **** all difference for signings if the Sharks continue to play bottom 4 each year.

  9. RyanG R Gee

Worked for the Rabbitohs didn't it?

  10. Magic AJ Parker

Means they can start investing in the juniors again.

I reckon the next few years are going to be bleak though. They already got an advancement on their 2011 NRL grant so the 2 million upfront will only go someway to covering that. They'll probably (unfortunately) start to peak when the 2 new teams enter and they'll struggle to compete with them in the transfer market.

Might be wrong but I can't see a whole lot changing for a while.

I think our side for this season is a bit under-rated tbh.

Considering they've made the finals once in 5 years since Crowe and co took over, I'd say no.

They've made a few big signings. Inglis wouldn't even have gone to Souths if Brisbane and the Storm could've afforded him - He certainly didn't choose Souths first.

The bloded has no relevance to what I said. You said "This will make **** all difference for signings if the Sharks continue to play bottom 4 each year." I said it worked for the Rabbitohs (they signed several big name players despite finishing bottom 4 consistently). My arguement was about whether or not we could sign big name players, not what position we'd come afterwards.

I thought I'd add it because the two are somewhat inextricably linked.

My argument stands though. Asotasi, Burgess and a very anomalous case in Inglis. So basically, Asotasi and Burgess and this is a club with, IMO, a much more appealing mystique - Success, history of legends/immortals, foundation club, biggest supporter base...

  15. RyanG R Gee

True. I guess it remains to be seen but I think we'll be able to sign 1 or 2 relatively big name players for 2012. The thing I hope they use this money for (provided the deal goes ahead and what not) is use it to keep the good juniors around.

It is certainly better than last year but I still don't think they will get much further than 13th on the ladder. Knowing me though, they will probably make the 8 and play in the Grand Final and Parramatta will win the thing.

  17. Wilson SB Wilson

Nah Parramatta will spoon. We will be there or there abouts tbh.

Obviously I will talk more in-depth in my previews thread but to me, Cronulla are still an unbalanced outfit. Their forwards are class and their backs are arse. Douglas, Snowden, Gallen, Tupou, Smith - all cusp Origin/Test players and quality club players.

Gardner is a good young player but approximating the sort of player he'll become based on 16 games is a fool's errand.

Colin Best is rubbish and the fact that some people actually think he's SOO quality is laughable.

I like Collis. He'll probably end up in reserve grade though or another position. He's definitely underrated. Pomeroy can get ****ed though. Terrible hands.

Wade Graham is one of the most overrated young players in the game. He's not very creative and his running game is hardly noteworthy. Sure he's got a lot of potential and it's good to see him with 40 games under his belt at 20. There's still about 10 or 15 stand-offs I'd take before him though. Tim Smith is shit end of story. Together, these two make one of the weakest halves pairings in the NRL.

  19. Wilson SB Wilson

Still think it will eventually come to Kelly and Graham in the halves. Which will be ****ing awesome

I have Sharks at 15 and Eels at 16. Sharks can do so much better than that though.
