Yeah but Kevvie would just pick Morgan there, and the plebs on Facebook would claim it was Holmes who was unlucky.

Kevvie did acknowledge that Ponga missed out due to him playing on the weekend before. Hopefully that was the reason.

I'd still be picking Slater. He and Munster played a lot together, and I reckon we would have scored more tries if Slater was there in support or throwing finishing passes. You could tell Munster was looking for him sometimes.

Yeah I’m fine with Slater coming back in. Picking Morgan was ridiculous.

Do you guys seriously think Ponga is better than Slater at this stage already? Especially in origin coming off a losing game. So long as he's fit I'd 100% pick Slater. He's been extremely good since he returned from his long-term injury last year, especially his ball playing.

I'd definitely pick Slater because of his experience in Origin. We sorely missed it. But yes, I do think Ponga is better than him already.

  7. Boobidy BJ Gemmell

Ponga is the best fullback in the game already, IMO.

  8. Alec AD Funkotron

Ponga is very talented, but there have been so many players that kill it in their first full season and then never live up to it again. Slater has seemed to have slowed down a bit this year, but he was amazing last year after coming back from injury. Slater last year > Ponga this year > Slater this year.

Na, Ponga has been better than Slater was last year, better than Slater has been in a long time. He's carrying the fuck out of Newcastle. I cant recall a ball-playing fullback of his calibre since Kunt tbh

Slater ruled out of Sundays game Vs Newcastle.

Yeh I'd be picking Slater, I think he does all the basics exceptionally well and that suits Origin footy.

I don't know how much a fullback really does in regards to organising the defensive line but Bellamy and Robinson sure do carry on about it a lot and both agree Slater is the best in the game at it.

Given Qlds defence around the ruck they need any help they can get.

I don't think I'd say Ponga is better than Slater because I'd need more sustained performance for that than half a season, but just in terms of performances this year he's been better IMO. You could make an argument for him actually being the best performed player all year in any position.

Leaving Slater out would be needlessly reckless unless he's not fully fit - I'd pick him for sure - but I won't be breathing a sigh of relief if he is out as a NSW fan; Ponga at the back would scare the fuck out of me.

Really though, this discussion just highlights how retarded it was to not pick Ponga in Game I when Slater was injured. It was the perfect excuse.

The one upside to losing RCG is a better balanced bench with Jake Trbojevic moving into a starting role.

We will probably just frick that up though and pick James.

    Cribbage likes this.

Haha yep I said this to Gemmell and Taylor yesterday. I think RCG is a bit of a myth so I'd usually not mind losing him to be replaced by another prop, especially since it'd balance the interchange better if Jake started. But as much as I think he's over-rated he's definitely better than Ryan James, who was apparently really close to playing Game I.

  15. Lukic L Popovic

RCG was pretty good in origin tbh.

  16. Alec AD Funkotron

James definitely pushing for a spot for NSW. Guess it's easy to do when you play the current Doggies.

  17. AVA T Delonge

Klemmer may very well miss Origin if he cops a week suspension for his late hit. James becoming more and more of a certainty.

  18. Toolman TR Man

    He's in!

  19. AVA T Delonge

Matt fucking Prior. Talk about left field picks

  20. Wilson SB Wilson

    He's a gun tbf.
