lol a the irony. The guy's played a dozen good games in his life. As if he should be there after finally putting together half a season of consistency.
I wasn't suggesting for a moment that NSW should drop them and go with that spine I listed. It was merely posting what they could've had this year with regard to creativity. And I don't think Campese is finished at rep level. Recurring knee injuries take a long time to get over. He's only 29. I'd definitely be looking at him next year and so will you
Mitchell Pearce has come out and admitted that if NSW lose, he's history. It depresses me to see that a first grade footballer buys into such vacuous assessments of performance. It could of course be that Pearce doesn't actually accept the validity of this principle and merely recognises that it's the way most people think, including Laurie Daley. However, reading his quotations it rather seems like he believes it too. And though seemingly ubiquitous, there couldn't be a less substantive, more illogical process of analysis. I mean insofar as his future prospects of playing rep football are concerned, should he play well who cares if NSW lose? The same goes for the converse; if NSW win that doesn't in the slightest suggest that he deserves to be retained. Implicit in this way of thinking is the proposition that the result is inextricably intertwined with the halfback's performance. I don't accept this line of thinking and I don't understand why anyone does.
Yeah but MF's point is that Pearce seems to think he's gone if we lose, regardless of what else happens. What if we lose but he's our best player? What if we win and he plays like arse again? His selection shouldn't hinge on whether we win or not. It should hinge on his own performance, the alternatives and the balance of the team.
Pearce will get dropped regardless of performance if we lose, he was already under huge pressure heading into the series and another lost series will just fire up the critics even more. And visa versa. That's just reality.
LOL Dugan has never been named on the wing and has played at fullback since debuting. He only spent time on the wing last year when he returned from injury and Robinson was killing it. He took that intercept against the Sharks and ran the length of the field playing on the wing. You could also see when the call came out for him to switch to the wing from fullback he was visibly frustrated and gave the trainer a mouthful including Robinson. I'm sure he is just saying all that to ensure he can remain in the NSW squad due to his "versatility" upon Hayne's return.
