Even if he doesn't dive you can't possibly give a try in that situation.

The stark difference this year was the same as it has been throughout this dynasty. NSW couldn't match QLD in creativity. This has lead many to conclude the Laurie Daley line that NSW have to score points. Whilst that is true they also can't afford to weaken their side defensively. And it's strange because Daley didn't even pick a particularly creative spine at all. Maybe he just disagrees on the actual creativity of the players he chose.

    Nonetheless the contrast is dramatic.

Tries created or scored in 2013 series:
    Thurston: 3
    Cronk: 3

    Pearce: 0
    Maloney: 0

    Line breaks created or made:
    Thurston: 3
    Cronk: 2

    Pearce: 1
    Maloney: 1

This shouldn't be much of a dilemma for NSW. They can adjust their team to score more points without actually weakening the team defensively. Placing Hayne or Stewart at fullback is not going to weaken the defence significantly, nor is replacing Maloney and Pearce with Carney/Mullen/Campese/Sezer/Reynolds etc.

Likewise, I don't think Bird is much worse defensively than Hoffman in Origin, which is the other move that would allow NSW to score more points.

I actually should've phrased that differently. It's not so much about scoring more points as it is about strengthening their attack (scoring more points follows from that). And you're right it shouldn't be a dilemma but there are people (Daley included) who will pick players like Glenn Stewart and Tony Williams if they're in form because they're viewed as excellent attacking players.

Daley particularly loves Glenn Stewart. If he'd been fit I think Lewis would've been relegated to the bench.

Yeah. Time should've been called before the play the ball anyway IMO; it was already clear what was going to happen at that point. And in the end, getting six again ate up enough of the clock to work in Queensland's favour anyway.

That's a rort though because it was last tackle and we had NSW shot.

Moot point IMO. The streaker was actually on the park about when Smith offloaded to Parker in the play before. I was actually surprised when Smith was allowed to get up and play the ball, because I thought for sure that the video ref would've let them know they had about 10 people running towards them from the other half of the field. The entire NSW defensive line would've been able to see it.

You can tell when the streaker gets on the field by hearing the crowd start roaring when nothing particularly enterprising is happening. 77:20. Cherry-Evans gets tackled and the crowd starts going off.

You got a set of 6, with 2 and a bit minutes on the clock and about 20m out from the NSW line. How is that not a result?

My response was to EWS saying the game should've been stopped before that last play, when it was evident that a spectator had intruded into the game. Were that the case, we would've only had one tackle left and the NSW defensive line, which as I say was really struggling, would've been able to get back and fully reset their line, severely diminishing whatever shot we had at sealing the game.

Were I a NSW fan I would feel a bit miffed but one needs to remember the situation; it was quite likely that QLD were going to score. So any grumblings about having to defend another fresh set must in all decency be accompanied by that realisation.

IMO, if not for that streaker, QLD would've won 18-10 but as I say, I'm happy with the neutral infringement call. I think it was the right one.

Matt Scott was particularly filthy about it and he should be. If the streaker wasn't there he still scores as you said. His first origin try to be denied like that must be infuriating. lol

I was there, the fat cunt ran the length of the field, it was fucking awesome. Had some toe.

I was there and didn't even realise there was a streaker until about 10 seconds after Scott dived over the try line. Was watching the ball that closely, see Scott dive over, head goes down in sorrow, look back up and see cops surrounding someone on the field. :p

Got his pants stuck on his shoes for a while too. Was a solid effort.
