Greg Bird wants an official apology from the NRL for being sin binned. Good luck with that mate.

Daley blamed himself for Merritt's lapses in defence but said he can't guarantee him a spot for Game III. He's obviously finished. He said he was happy with Dugan's performance. I think, and this is obviously partly wishful thinking on my part, that Hayne will be put on the wing.

Except for the part where it wasn't much of a hit at all.

Can count himself lucky but really it was glancing blow to the side of the head.

    I don't think that's a send off, no.

It was a king hit to the back/side of the head. Glancing or not. This is why you need the sin bin. A penalty is too lenient. A send off is too harsh. There has to be something in between IMO.

If Hayne plays wing in Origin III then Daley should be sacked on the spot. Not sure I'll even want to watch the game.

Shut up cunt. :p You can cross to Union when you get to Engalend.

It will either be your dream - Hayne to fullback, Gordon to wing. Carney to five-eighth. Or your worst nightmare. Dugan at 1. Hayne to wing. Maloney staying at 6.

No seriously, I've been really fucking angry about some selections in the past. The dropping of Campese, numerous Bellamy Melbourne favours, not picking any front rowers for ages, leaving Ryles out, the list is endless really. Lots of cricket selections have angered me even more than rugby league ones. But after watching that abomination of an attacking structure tonight, if Hayne was picked on the wing because of comparative advantage it'd be fucking nuts. It'd top it. I've never experienced anger like I would if that happened.

Gallen and Daley having a good old whinge as expected. No different to Meninga after Game I. Daley saying he can't give an honest answer to questions about the fight, implying that he thinks the refs were biased. Gallen, the man incapable of self-criticism, as usual saying he should've got the penalty for Tate pushing him. Which is true. Except that he should've been penalised before that for laying in the ruck. And of course Daley saying NSW players were pissed because Pearce copped an elbow from Slater and that "it didn't go unnoticed, but nothing happened." Wtf? It was accidental and you got a penalty whilst not in possession ffs. What more should've happened? Didi you want a sin bin for that too? FMD.

Or like I've said the Match review committee.

I don't know when people will start to cotton on to the fact that Slater isn't just a clumsy bloke he's a grub... he's just a bit smart at it than blokes like Gallen.

I'm talking about in-game punishment. You get sent to the match review committee often even when you just give away a penalty.

  12. Maroon_Faithful M Faithful

Maybe it was intentional. I don't know. You blokes got the penalty anyway. Play on.

    wtf

Like Magic I reckon Slater hit him on purpose, but 90% of the time a player would get awya with it that in possession IMO. We got a penalty 2m out from the Queensland line when they had the ball on the first tackle. That was a massive call that I reckon we wouldn't have got if Pearce didn't react like a massive turd; pretty lucky in general. How can he whinge about that?

I would've loved for one of these journos to grow a set and take Gallen up on the shit he says.

"I should've got the penalty for Tate pushing me. It would've ended there."
"Well, actually you should've been penalised for laying in the tackle. Then Tate wouldn't have pushed you. And Merrin wouldn't have thrown punches. Same as in Game I. You shouldn't have hit Myles with a swinging arm then he wouldn't have pushed you. And you wouldn't have used that as a license to punch him in the head."

Gallen has no capacity for self-criticism. He never, ever thinks he does anything wrong.

Slater was put on report too. Free interchange....

  16. Cribbage RG Cribb

Haha, we weren't going to interchange Pearce though. Even if it would have been a good idea. :p

    GET THAT INTO YAS!! QUEENSLANDER!!

One thing I don't understand about NSW was Farah's kicking in the first half. They're down by 14-0 and twice from about 30 out he drove it low to the corner. One was cleaned up by Tate. The other went over the sideline. With 15 to go before HT down by that deficit you really have to put the foot down and try something.

The two great exponents of kicking in Origin, Lewis and Sterlo summed it up.
Lewis, in a tone of disbelief:
"Gee I thought that was a wasted opportunity for NSW. They could've put it high or challenged the back three."
    Sterlo, similarly befuddled:
"Wally. 14-0 down. 30m out. You can't be putting into touch."
    Lewis:
    "Extraordinary!"

We both know it would've been

Nah. He was good when he ran the ball; created some in-roads and second phase. He offered virtually nothing else though.

I actually thought he threw some really good passes to Lewis, but as Queensland knew they didn't need to worry about ..
    a) his short kicking game
    b) Dugan and Josh Morris conspiring to form a simple catch and pass out the back behind Lewis
.. Lewis was heavily marked, even allowing for the fact that Thurston once again tackled him poorly.

I did say earlier in this thread that a team's second rowers were becoming more important in determining what sort of fullback you needed, but that's just straight up not the case a lot of the time when you have Pearce. He's actually quite good at putting second rowers through holes, but that means his second rower needs to be up flat with him as a running option pretty much all the time. Lewis does that well but it means he's never going to get the ball deep with time to create anything. Dugan and Pearce is an absurdly bad match no matter what you think of Dugan and Pearce individually (which in my case isn't much to begin with).

That said, SBW is pretty much the textbook definition of a ball-playing second rower these days and he plays with Pearce. He just wastes Pearce's best attribute instead of wasting his own and ruining the structure of the Roosters right edge. Tip to Lewis, perhaps. :p
