Why the Ravens/Melbourne Storm might not be good for CricSim

Ok, so here is how I see it. The Ravens were founded as a self proclaimed elitist club who in theory sign members based on their forum contributions above all else, with the idea being to create a subforum free from all the juvenille shit that goes on elsewhere on this forum. Their members are, on the whole, pretty mature, intelligent guys like Heef, Old Mate and...err...Marto.

Anyway, ifwe assume that this club ethos was successful (which it seems to be, although this is impossible to tell for an outsider), there are still some major problems. Essentially, my objection is this - by sucking up a lot of the guys that could contribute to the forum in a constructive way, the Ravens could potentially be damaging for the forum.

It's been noted before that sometimes there seems to be a condescending attitude from some of their members towards the rest of the forum. Whilst I think that this is pretty much bullshit, the whole point of the club is to form something 'better' than the forum as a whole. As a result, there's an inevitable divide between Ravens and non-Ravens, and some degree of isolation. There are quite a few (good) Ravens members that are rarely seen outside of the subforum. It's easy for this to lead to a downhill spiral - the Ravens don't post in the main forum because they percieve it to be...well...dire, and the forum heads towards direness because they don't contribute to it.

So basically, I think that you can make an argument that the forum would be much better if the Ravens were spread throughout all the other clubs. Some won't like being called this, but a lot of Raven-esque members (i.e. guys who can think analytically and get their points across) are at the helm of other clubs. There's Flack at the Pumas, Ged here at the Rays, Wilson and to a lesser extent Bedsey at the Clones...dare I say it...Kovas? Maybe too far. But still, the point is that if all these type of guys went to the Ravens, CricSim would go to shit.

Anyway, I just thought I'd put these thoughts out there, and see what people's opinions were.

 

Yeah, that's the issue. I can totally appreciate the positives for the members involved. They can share maths jokes etc. Was just putting it out there that it may be their gain at the forum's expense. Not sure whether I think this is actually the case or not.

 

I've not actually made more than 2 or 3 lightbulb posts IIRC.
