    Terrible. Just terrible.

Disregarding the earlier rant against Reynolds, he would be my first pick as the NSW half. Organises the middle well, controls the game and is well documented as having a great short kicking game and

IMO.....with improvements being shown in his long distance game.

Running game has distinctly improved since his first year in the NRL ......

I guess if Carney can stay consistent, he might edge Maloney out. Carney and Reynolds would suit each others games well.

Pearce has to go .......unless he plays career best form and basically re-invents himself, I can't see why NSW would stick with him, except for a misguided sense of loyalty in a poor man's attempt at copying QLD "secret formula".

He had Pearce and Maloney inside of him. :p Reynolds is still there for attacking kicks anyway, it's not like he is a waste of space inside the attacking 20.

If a more rounded half is available I'd definitely pick them first, but Reynolds offers more than Pearce every day of the week.

Adam Reynolds his strengths are the areas where we couldn't compete with QLD this series. He'll complete sets with good options and direct the side better than Pearce. Carney can run outside him all day and play to his backline knowing his 7 will be organising his forwards and his prescence takes pressure off Carney at 5th tackle as wed have two options who can end sets well off the boot.

    6.Carney
    7.Reynolds
    9.Farah
    14.Gidley

Pearce - no. He's failed too many times already.
Reynolds - only if Carney plays. Shouldn't if he doesn't, but offers a better kicking game than Pearce and is a goalkicker.
Carney - yes, though probably not at halfback, should be the 5/8th.
Campese - has declined too much. Only if he fires.
McCrone - hmm....just doesn't seem like that sort of quality. Won't get picked either.
Mullen - good choice IMO. Don't really see them picking him but he's probably the best quality of the bunch.
Gidley - not starting. Bench utility/hooker please.
Walsh - impossible, won't play NRL next season. Shame too as he's one of the better halfbacks in the game.
Kelly - could just easily lose his head, and his defence is poo (IIRC). Don't really think he's ready.
Other - Sezer the best option here. Don't rate the other Reynolds. Williams a maybe if he dominates for St Merge next season.

It will be Reynolds if he starts off the season well, unless the Roosters have another good season (please no).

It is actually unfair on him to quote last year's statistics about his running and passing games, there was no need given the influence of Inglis and Luke and their strengths in these areas as well as Maguire's reluctance to throw him in at the deep end.

I never said he was putting blokes in holes or destroying defences with his game this season either, but he's developing - you rarely see the bloke throw a pass that stops a backline movement and he has shown at various times he can take on the line. If New South Wales got as much field position on Wednesday night with Pearce at 7, I'd love to see them dominate Queensland on the Reynold's excellent kicking game.

So what's his excuse for the first half of this year?

    Fixed.

Showing you can and actually doing it are two very different things. Todd Carney can take on the line but it's no good to you if he refuses to do it.

Outside the opposition 20 I don't think he offers anything of note. And I think that would be more evident if he wasn't playing behind arguably the best pack in the NRL.

I think a good short kicking game could trouble QLD a lot. Tate isn't exactly the most reliable person under the high ball - I think he dropped a bomb in each game this year. And we all know that Slater is a show off, he's bound to drop one too when he's 5 metres in the air.

Well, this is the second time someone has made reference to his range.

Exactly how is Reynolds more rounded than Pearce? What facet other than kicking does Reynolds have over him? i mean you can't compare what Pearce offered NSW in his Origin games to what Reynolds does at Souths. You have to compare them at club level. In my opinion, Pearce has a better passing game, a better running game, he's more creative and he's a better organiser. Other than kicking what does Reynolds offer that you would honestly say he will be able to transfer into Origin?

I think Reynolds offers more purely because it seems that Pearce has now conclusively shown that he offers nothing at Origin level. He can't transfer any of it. But he's certainly a more rounded player than Reynolds.

Repeat sets on our line too ......I think NSW stats for this year show they were miserable at it.

    Reynolds does it well .....

Honestly, as if you're going to pick a halfback based on his ability to hoist the ball in the air. Pearce and Carney bombed the shit out of Tate and Slater in 2012. And Pearce and Maloney got a few results from the high kick on Wednesday night too. I mean if you're resorting to that when picking a halfback to play Origin you're really struggling.

You could pick a legitimately lethal squad around Carney, Reynolds and Farah. Picking Ferguson and someone like McManus on the wings would really utilise his ability. Gifted leapers are one of the most important assets inside the 20.

It's not bombs he's talking about I think. It's more kicks to the corner and kicks in the in goal for repeat sets. Sustaining pressure is paramount in Origin and it's something we haven't done for eight years.

Albert Kelly IMO. But the thread is a bit off, should be the halves pairing tbh

Your head is a bit off if you think Albert Kelly should be playing halfback for NSW, ya biased cunt. :p

Nah, gun attacking halfback, solid in defense, x factor. I just doubt he'll stay off the booze long enough
