    Yeah well you get absolutely nothing back from Newtown besides the 500 people that turn up at Henson on a Saturday afternoon. It's sad to see a club die, I preferred watching NSW Cup having a KB on the hill at Henson, to a gAme at Homebush at times. But the area has changed and there's just no need or pull for a team of any description at Newtown realistically. Very few people who live in that area care much for sport at all really and you're not going to pick up any juniors.

    We didn't wait to tell them anything. The plan was always to continue with Newtown as our reserve grade side, the club said so when they announced the Central Coast deal.

    It was just a really unfortunate and shitty string of events; Cronulla & Melbourne split from their reserve grade affiliation, Melbourne went and asked Newtown if they wanted to be affiliated they said no we're still with the Roosters so Melbourne went and signed a deal with a QLD Cup side.

    Then Cronulla went to Wyong and asked if they wanted to be their reserve grade side, Wyong went to the Roosters and said our preference is you guys but if you continue your association with Newtown as your primary reserve grade side we will agree to a deal with Cronulla.

    Which would've been ridiculous given the deal the Roosters signed with the Central Coast juniors only a few weeks back & the rest is history. All the above literally happened in the space of a week. Has the makings of a romcom.

    Logic says that Cronulla should sign with Newtown now but who knows.

    Cronulla still have their own NSW Cup side though, why do they urgently need a second one? Is the current Sharks NSW Cup side pulling out. It's not like the Sharks are blessed with an over-abundence of talent that one Reggies side can't fill.

    For the record, seeing as I'm a newbie here, I'm a fan of the new affiliation as I used to play for the Roos a lifetime ago so it's a perfect marriage for a Roosters/Roos fan like myself. As long as the Roosters don't overrun Wyong RLFC and that Wyong can still call the shots on their future moving forward I'll be happy.

    They had an arrangement with Melbourne this season to cover some of the costs -- Melbourne put up some of the funding and they didn't have to recruit as many players for it either as Melbourne's reserves were playing for it. Melbourne have bailed on it meaning the costs of running such a team will be greatly increased, so I doubt they'll bother having one unless they absolutely need to.

    Yeah, I've heard that Newtown are looking at affiliating themselves with Cronulla for 2015, before attempting to pick up the Doggies as their senior club after that.

    Yep, Friday night games suck. My son has scouts at 7:30 so I miss the kick-off and miss the last 20 mins when I gotta go pick him up.
    Bloody scouts, pick any other night of the working week ya bastards.
