State of Origin 2023

My number 1 thing is who is least likely to shit themselves. He's more limited but I feel like Reynolds is the one least likely to be owerawed. His kicking game will be a key asset, so if he just does that and steers the ship then we have say Hynes, Walker or even Moses in 6 predominantly worrying about getting the ball to Latrell/being able to take advantage of those little half 4 on 3.5 overlaps that pop up in origin we'll be in a good spot.

If instead we're in a position that we're relying on Moses to come in and steer the ship, take on most of the kicking and still have to create a bit because we've got Luai who to me is more limited in his vision to take advantage of those half opportunities that pop up, coupled with Tedesco at the back who has always looked a bit limited in his ball playing, we're going to really be up against it and look like shit.

    Maybe. 32 i could understand.

Hynes is no chance now imo. And Luai wont be dropped for an injured Walker. Down to Reynolds and Moses. If the latter plays well tomoz it's his.

Yeah not his finest and that’s well and truly knocked him out of the running.

Be interesting to see if he’s selected on the bench still. With Api being injured it increases it’s likelihood but outside of injury cover I don’t think he’s suited to it at all.

Moses will dominate. Pick Reynolds and you'll have to grind out the win.

Cobbo, Gilbert and Arrow all ruled out with injury. Very happy to see Mo earn a recall. Shouldve been there in Game 1 ahead of Flegler afaic. He's a top 5 prop in the NRL imo. Not saying he's Payne Haas but he's up there, averaging 10.5m per run and over 30 tackles. Some of his games this year...

vs Cowboys, 198m from 19 runs, 31 tackles.
vs Broncos, 200m from 16 runs, 33 tackles.
vs Dolphins, 222m from 19 runs, 38 tackles.
vs Sea Eagles, 200m from 19 runs, 32 tackles.

    Very, very strong player.

Jeez, Nanai has done nothing this season but get suspended and miss tackles. What has he done to deserve selection?

Sure Kaufusi has copped a couple of suspensions, but the 1st one was bullshit.

    Cobbo out?
We're going to miss his yardage.

I'd rather see Horsburgh on the bench instead of Flegler.

Literally the only reason, imo, is Nanai got a game last week and played well. Kaufusi wont have played for a month.

Coates does bugger all from his own end for Melbourne but he's been good in that regard for Qld in the past. I think he's there because of his huge height advantage over To'o; 6'4 vs 5'9. He's definitely a kicking target with that sort of disparity. Dude has insane finishing ability too.

Oates is just too slow for Origin. And his positioning is still a major issue in his game.

Yep, I think the only fuck up combo is Luai/Hynes but it's also probably the leading option in Freddys mind. Perhaps not after yesterday though, I didn't see the game, was Hynes bad? No matter what a halfback can't look good when that kind of score is put on his side though.

He was pretty awful. Gifted Melbourne two tries. Lots of poor passes.

Nanai being picked is stupid, Slater has an obsession with always going youth. Nanai is an absolute liability in defence, and it should be someone like Kaufuse or even Su'a.

Goates should be on the wing for Cobbo. Fuck Coates.

Playing for Titans certainly hurts him. He's a jet

Mates and I were wondering if his little origin 1 stint might completely crush his confidence. Hope he bounces back.

Still think he'd be a gun 6 following Cleary/Reynolds or similar around

It’ll probably be a bit overstated in the media of what effect it’s having on him. He was gassing the Broncos the week before and his teammates couldn’t hold on to the pill.

He’d absolutely be feeling the pressure though and yesterday + likely missing out will only compound that, but I actually think it’ll be the best thing for his career. This is his first real test and he’ll come out the other side better for it.

He also should be doing that for Cronulla with Trindall.

I heard Anasta speak about this on NRL 360, said when he failed at Origin level it just completely shot his confidence and he was watching closely to see how Hynes would bounce back. Not something I’d considered tbh.

Hyne’s would’ve been my first choice at 6 but I understand them leaving him out of this series now, turns 27 this week, he will get his day.

More likely burnt out than declined IMO. Can barely remember the guy missing a game at club or rep level in the last 5 years, played every finals series, SOO series, coming off the back of World Cup campaign last year captaining all 3 sides. He spoke briefly of the mental fatigue captaining all 3 sides has caused him.

If we’re out of the top 8 race by end of July I back Uncle Nick just sending him off to Mykonos for a 3 month holiday.
