    Anyone who is in the starting XI can open as long as they are in the team , I dont understand how I dont count though even though I am not a batsman

    Didnt you watch one of the SA vs Aus games , where SA couldnt find a opening partner for I think it was McKenzie ,then they brought Morne Morkel(a bowler) to open.

    See it makes sense ;)

    In a team that already has eight batsmen in it, you're not going to open with a bowler ffs. Just shut up. There were no serious opening options who wanted to open.

    South Africa batted all the way to 7 or 8 and all of those 7/8 batsman were active unlike here where half of them are inactive and will be worthlesss opening.

    South Africa didn't actually select Morne Morkel to open in a match though; they used him to open because they had an injury mid-game. That's entirely different. They only had six batsmen and they didn't want to lengthen the tail. It also, by the by, failed miserably.
