QLD Rugby League Players

Has to be Myles after this series....wtf was that in game 1, only 12 tackles?

I didn't think Thaiday played as bad as some made out, but would prefer to swap him and Papalii around.

Likewise to Alec, I like Matt Parcell. I'd like to think he comes on enough to one day be the replacement for Smith. I don't want to see McCullough in a QLD jumper.

Taylor...sure the talk is premature. Still, he's a classy player. I'm don't know about Hunt....he's sinking into a pretty deep hole. Be a pretty fair effort to climb out of it.

It's just typical hype around a young kid. Most of us thought The same early on about Luke Brooks.

Qld's halves depth is unprecedented. At no point in my memory have we had so many gun halves. There clearly must be some correlation with junior development pathways because it's absurd the class difference between Qld and NSW halves. Milford, Hunt, Morgan, DCE would all be walk up starts for NSW and Norman would be well in the dicussion. Add in Elgey and Taylor as rookies on the up and I'm pretty happy that while we may note dominate origin like the past 10 years, even if our depth drops off in other positions we'll still win more than we lose.

I think it's all roses for Qld for the foreseeable future. Our depth in certain positions isn't fantastic but we've got enough there - say, four options to cover two positions.

Myles did enough with his limited game time. Thaiday was fucking horrible, he produced fuck all for 70mins. I wouldn't pick either after this year, but if I had to pick only 1 it would probably be Myles.

Myles made 16 tackles. That's fair enough in 27 minutes. I really think he needs to put on the bench.

Myles just needs longer minutes. Queensland are already going in a prop short without playing one of their starters for only 27 minutes. He's not what he was but he's worth more game time than that, especially when you're resorting to Thaiday playing 70 including a stint up the middle in which he does fucking no work at all.

If history is anything to go by, over the long-term, player depth in Origin is really quite incidental. It's much better to have one Allan Langer and hope he doesn't get injured than to have 8 Craig Gower's or Paul Green's - multiple players who are thereabouts but aren't really good enough to ever be a consistent success at the highest level.

That's part of why QLD, despite having a fraction of the player pool available to NSW, have been the better state over the 35+ years. Of course, it's nice to have so many quality players in key positions and I agree that our depth in the halves is unprecedented but it's finding the ones who truly belong in rep footy. Despite having DCE, Hunt, Milford, Morgan etc. it won't mean shit when Thurston and Cronk go if they all fail to rise to Origin standard.

This is why it's bizarre to hear NSW fans saying things like "Yeah we've got a lot of depth out in the centres (Jennings, Morris, Roberts, Dugan, Leilua, Bird, Walker and so forth) and it's hard to split them but which ever way we go we're well served." Fuck off you do, cunt. You've got better depth overall than QLD but this isn't club football. We have Inglis. You have fuck all. Even Jennings is only marginally good enough. It's a failure to recognise how high the bar is.

    Not me.

Something about Taylor, he seems to have a fair bit of time. Of course ...it's very early. 2nd year usually sorts out the weeds. I'm probably more concerned about his proneness to injury. Young man, still growing I suppose.

Very telling....last time NSW tasted real success was what....the Johns era? In past years of NSW dominance, they had teams with that type of upper echelon player. Last decade they have had a lot more choice, but only from the middle shelf.

QLD on the other hand have been blessed to go through eras of Lewis, Langer, Lockyer, Thurston & Smith...........Milford.

Cameron Munster may stay at fullback if Slater retires but he's our best option at right centre imo. And yeah I'm including Chambers in that list.

Nope. Chambers would be a better option.

I'd still pick Chambers because he has the experience and plays there every week but Munster is definitely better imo. He is a superb footballer.

  14. Alec AD Funkotron

    Morgan > both IMO

    At centre? Nah.

In top form, Chambers is one of the best centres in the comp.

    Never forget The Bath.

    Say what now?

Parker retiring is a huge loss for us. We've got options but the middle third is becoming increasingly worrisome.

I think we will see Gillett move to 13 for the Broncos and QLD.
