Last year was, for all intents and purposes, an anomaly. I don't anticipate them losing their fullback and centre. Let's hope not, for their sake.
It's all about Bateman IMO. Probably doesn't really have a future with Canberra because he's so similar to Fensom and there are diminishing returns on such players in a lineup but he'll end up by far the best player of your NYC forwards from last year IMO.
It's definitely still a decent squad IMO, still haven't addressed their second row issues and letting Thompson go has just further highlighted that. Given Stickys love for a second rower I imagine this will be addressed very quickly though. There's literally a question mark over every single player in their spine for mine. Whether Campo can get back to somewhere near his best, whether Cornish and McCrone will be succesful and whether Milford will even see the season out and how he's going to cope with all the abuse /attention. I also really don't know how Stuart will go at a club whose playing style has been the polar opposite of his coaching style for many years. Could be a match made in heaven or a long process. It's a shame they didn't get the time or opportunity to spend Dugan and Ferguson's salaries, one or two good pick ups and I'd have them in the mix for the 8
Well 3 things are in their favour: 1. Less off-field problems which will distract from the footy. 2. Stuart > Furner as a coach. 3. One thing I've noticed is that Canberra seem to make the 8 every year on even years (when was the last even year they missed the 8? 1984? ) but rarely do so on odd years. Why this is I dunno, but it's happened for too long to ignore it entirely.
I'd imagine that the blokes left are out are either carrying niggling injuries or under done so will turn out for the mounties.
Campese is apparently likely to switch to the right. If he and Papalii click along with Milford, they'll be a real force working off the back of a very strong middle third.
WT first and second choice five-eighths both out for at least the first month of the competition. Will be interesting to see who ends up slotting in there; Austin I guess.
Hoping for a switch between Croker and Wighton I think they are more suited to opposite sides of the field.
Whos the second, Moses? Potter said In that pre season show on fox that he was looking at playing Braith in the six to provide some experience
So that's Moltzen, Halatau, Sironen and Moses all out for at least the first month with the first two out for probably half the season. To open the season they've got the Dragons away, Titans away, Souths at home (which is more a Souths home game anyway, at ANZ) and the Warriors away. If they're not in the bottom 4 after the first month, I'll be surprised.
Sironen and Moltzen. Moses is indeed injured too but I don't think he was likely to start the season in first grade regardless. Yeah that sounds like something he'd do unfortunately.
Michael Gordon Sosaia Feki Jonathan Wright Blake Ayshford Eric Grothe Jnr Daniel Holdsworth Jeff Robson Andrew Fifita Isaac De Gois Tim Robinson Wade Graham Matt Prior Sam Tagataese interchange John Morris Siosaia Vave Tinirau Arona Tupou Sopoaga Nathan Stapleton How Jonathan Wright has an NRL contract I will never know. Meanwhile, Gardner continues to rot in reserve grade. Cowboys should try and poach the cunt.
Surprised Bulldogs didn't try and sign him. With any luck and some sense Wright won't be the centre come round 1.
Interested to see how the Dragons go tonight. They're just shy of full strength so they probably should beat a Souths side without either of their first string halves. Then again, the Dragons forward pack is very average.
