That's a pretty big drawback if you want to use 2nds as an indicator as to how someone will play in 1sts.
One option would be to make post rank count for less in determining the 'basics' - the sort of skills you'd expect to be very good at the professional Second XV sides IRL. Ball handling, for example, would be of a good level even for the very worst players, at that level.
This is a fair point, but I think this could fundamentally change the balance of the sim given the way things are built - which is also something I'd like to avoid because I think the balance is pretty good at the moment. In fact, better than last season. I think we may see the occasional upset this season. Or at least the upsets will be more frequent than the 1 or 2 we saw last season (NSW vs. Victoria being the only one which springs to mind).
I like non-linear. I'm not all that fussed if some of the good guys get better again. I think it is realistic to have guys that really stand out. Having a couple of super stars in the game makes sense from my stand point.
Could you maybe do some sort of combination? For example non-linear for total post rank and then add in a small linear factor for positional post rank.
I'm now using a ln(x)^3 calculation to come up with a non-linear relationship for post ranks. This means that players between about Post Rank 10 and Post Rank 90 will be slightly worse in post rank terms and those from Post Rank 90 onwards will trend towards being better than their raw post rank would suggest. However, the order will not change. If you're 30th best player now, you will remain the 30th best player. All this will mean is that 2nd grade is less of a joke than it is now. I will also look to make Raw Post Rank a combination of All Time Post Rank (www.cricsim.com/rusim.php) and the Season's post rank (TBD) to make overall post rank more seasonally based. However, the All Time Post Rank will carry much, much more weight than current season, so the difference this will make is to make completely inactive players slightly worse but those who are reasonably active will remain largely unaffected.
I don't have post ranks for each season. Only Seasonal Rugby to date. So, I could bring this in over time, but certainly not as things stand.
Yeah that was what I suggested Morgie, looks like a gun plan from Heef though in theory looks like a good system
The forum software will record this post as a RUSim post and +1 my RUSim postbit - is there anyway you can take snapshots of RUSim postcounts on any particular given day and work out SWPR from that?
Important Announcement Overall post rank will now depend on: (1) All time player post-rank (published) (2) Season 5 player post-rank (not published) I will not be publicising how big an influence each will have on the overall post rank, just that (1) is more important than (2). As a result, and given the increased importance of short term post rank changes, I will be cracking down on SPAMMING - it is your responsibility to make sure that your posts have more than just a cursory acquaintance with content. There will be no warnings, just infractions. There is no need to report perceived instances of spam, but I would encourage other admins to infract any spammy posts.
Although it would make cunts like me a bit better, it does seem unfair to those who have been very active in this sim if we were to go with option 2. This is a good idea tbh.
