Yeah, this, I should have said that. Obviously if the club hasn't been around for three seasons, guys who have been there the entire time will be treated as though they have Bird right.
Not too sure on the salary cap as that could be more trouble than it's worth, but the multi-year contracts is the way to go for sure.
Yeah, go nuts The advantage isn't worth anything to players who aren't active and isn't a massive thing. Randomness would probably almost cancel it out as production is still needed for an increase, but I think it's enough of a motivator without changing the game.
I suppose I just don't hold the view that an incentive is needed to keep people at the same clubs, there wasn't even that much movement this offseason anyway IIRC and I don't think transfers are a bad thing anyway. Probably in the minority though.
Yeah, the salary had to be agreed by player and club, and players wanted a higher salary as they'd be able to play more due to stamina boosts they'd get. The main issue I'd have as that it's extra work. It's just another thing to do before every game you sim and I'm sure you'd rather cut down on that than create more. Whilst having a committee decide player salaries is a good thing (IMO), it's also going to lead to people joining clubs they don't particularly want to join. With the SR S2 system, if Gaz wanted to join the Hurricanes, but we'd already spent a large amount on Damo and Denton, we could ask them if they were okay with taking a slight salary hit to see Gaz join, etc. With the system you're proposing, Gaz would have had to join some other club like the Spartans, and no-one would wish that on him.
Updates happen every 3 games, so that's not an issue. The point of the cap is basically to stop teams becoming too strong, but also - and my prime motivator - to see some of these active and good bench players move into starting/key roles elsewhere/at their current club. There are some very good bench players/reserves who can't get games at their current clubs so encouraging movement for that section is the aim. Bird rights are there so key team members can be signed over the cap, but teams should be prioritising their guys who want to be their first imo. Also it makes the comp more realistic, which is the ultimate goal.
