Is defense more important than offense in AFL?

    Honestly AFL seems like such a midfield dominated game that field position and the ability to quickly break through the middle is far more important than any individual feature of attack an defence. Now if you include that as one or the other, then I'd probably say attack since the game is fundamentally about outscoring the opponent and given it's an endurance based game, better attacking teams will get a greater advantage as the game goes on as defending requires more effort than attacking and you're far more prone to defensive laps in concentration which an attacking team will best take advantage of.

    I'm legitimately baffled that people think a defensive midfield will win you premierships. Amazed.

    The game these days is entirely about getting the ball to your outside runners who a good users of the ball, and stopping the opposition from doing so. You don't win the game just by defending the opposition run, you win by running the ball yourself.

    It reminds me a bit of when I started writing small parts of PY's posts for her just to help her own Hybrid on RLeague. He actually called me out on it eventually but we never admitted it. Best times.

    Basically what I'm saying is, Lukic is a strange enough forumer to get someone else to write his posts for him just to fuck with your heads IMO.
