I always go to Tom's Hardware for advice on things such as this. Such a helpful resource. You could even start a thread on their forums and people will always help out. Or just read other people's builds and what people have recommended for them

I just signed up on hardwarezone (an SG based tech forum). Most of the other guys who are asking similar questions have all got replies so I should get a couple soon enough.

From reading other people's threads I've got these -

    i5-3470 + Asus P8Z77-M = $429
    Palit GTX660Ti 2GB DDR5 = $439
    SeaSonic M12II-Modular 620W = $119
    Kingston HyperX 1600Mhz 4GB x 2 = $75
    WD Caviar Black 1TB = $144
    Corsair 300R Casing = $119
    LG DVD Drive = $25
    Assembly = $10

    cpu+mb: i5 3470 + asrock b75 pro3 m @ $355
    ram: g.skill 1333mhz 4gb x2 @ $52
    gpu: MSI HD7950 @ $399
    hdd: hitachi 1tb sata3 @ $105
    ssd: crucial m4 128gb @ $150
    odd: lg 24x dvdrw @ $25
    psu: fsp 500w 80+ gold @ $115
    casing: corsair 300r @ $119

both exclude a monitor and the OS. I have no idea what ssd and psu mean..

ssd means solid state drive I think

  4. Chewie JA Chewie

haven't heard of that psu company on the second one. PSU is one of the most important parts of the computer because if that blows, potentially your whole computer will go too.

Just buy the parts, and get someone to build it.

There's no real need of an SSD though is there? It's just extra storage that is read faster isn't it?

  7. Chewie JA Chewie

You install your OS on it and important programs and it runs so much faster. Everything boots faster and runs quicker

    I see, thanks.

Just got a reply, dude recommended this -

    cpu+mb: i5 3470 + asrock b75 pro3 m @ $355
    ram: g.skill 1333mhz 4gb x2 @ $52
    gpu: powercolor hd7850 1gb @ $255
    hdd: htiachi 500gb sata3 @ $74
    odd: lg 24x dvdrw @ $25
    psu: fsp 500w 80+ gold @ $115
casing: xigmatek asgard pro @ $79
os: win 7 home premium 64 bit @ $105 (price match with best buy or tradepac)
    monitor: viewsonic 21.5" VX2253MH LED @ $208

    $1264

Just need to add the SSD for $150 and maybe get a better Graphics card. Thoughts?

  9. Chewie JA Chewie

It's not necessary to get an SSD but I like it. But yea a better GPU wouldn't go badly.

  10. Gazza GJ Weaver

    What about an i7?

  11. Chewie JA Chewie

Not really worth the price increase unless you're doing something that is really processor heavy

Looks pretty good. Shop around and you might be able to get them cheaper. Find some Singaporean PC forums (if they exist) - users might recommend the cheapest and best stores (like MSY and PC Case Gear in Australia).

The 7850 is a decent choice but you might wanna keep away from brands like Powercolor. Also faster RAM won't hurt and won't be much more expensive.
