    Canberra finally get a Friday night game against the top team.......and it will be the 9:30 game in Canberra area.

    So smart

    Lol.

    They have spent the past year or so spruiking NRL as a better TV product than AFL, then they settle for at least $200 million less.

    GG.

    It's not, purely as with only a few tries in a game there's not much space for advertising. with 30 goals in an AFL game they can chuck in 30 ads inbetween, and with three breaks inbetween quarters totally about 30-40 minutes that's another 15 minutes of ad break there. NRL only get your tries + half time. While in terms of the game itself it probably is a better game, in terms of advertising revenue it's not hence the fee.

    Nah, you get ads at errors and other breaks in play as well.

    The more things change, the more they stay the same.

    Shit, I hate Channel 9. Was really hoping that Channel 10 got the rights.

    but not near as many as in afl is the point.

    which sucks - but the alternative of stopping play for ads is even worse.

    The 2nd Friday game and the Sunday game already get stopped for ads though. Unless they are going to be live (which I doubt), then they will continue to put ads throughout the match.

    I don't care who got it as long as it was the best deal financially for the game.

    If the money is a lot better than in 2006, I'm OK with it.

    Do we know if all games will be live?

    Article I saw said 2 games Friday and one Sunday, with the others being aired by Fox. So unless they move the Sunday game forward, and put the other Friday game on a different channel, which I doubt, no they wont be.

    I thought ten officially got it a little while ago? Devo.

    OK, here are the specifics.

    * $1 billion for the rights - what was the previous price?
    * First 20 rounds to be scheduled in advance of the season, other 6 by Round 16.
    * Sunday evening matches
    * Occasional Thursday night matches
    * All matches broadcast throughout Australia (unclear whether it is live though, suggested it isn't)
    * Night-time grand final
    * 2 hours of rugby league related content 'each night'.

    This is a dark, dark day for Rugby League.

    The deal is worse than what we have now.
    Essentially, it's the same except fox get 13 Sunday evening games. Which will be at the cost of afternoon matches.

    Channel 9 get three Thursday night games, because they obviously want to run straight into the footy show to try and save it's dying arse.

    And the 5pm compromise on the grand final has obviously been ignored, because it's back to 7:15pm kickoff.

    Friday night games will be run exactly the same, with different matches to different areas, and the 2nd digital channel won't be utilised.

    All matches are already broadcast throughout Australia. Just after midnight anywhere other than NSW & QLD.

    I don't think they can utilise the 2nd channel legally?

  18. morgieb MC Burridge

    Didn't the laws change? Because the AFL does utilise the 2nd channel in Sydney.

    They sure as shit can.

    Sunday evening matches make sense imo, should enable it to be live at least.
