Corbisero out injured. No sign of Wade or Yarde still, so it's a slightly worse team than last week. Hope Youngs starts. England 23-man squad v New Zealand: Forwards: D Cole (Leicester Tigers), D Hartley (Northampton Saints), J Launchbury (London Wasps), C Lawes (Northampton Saints), J Marler (Harlequins), B Morgan (Gloucester Rugby), M Mullan (London Wasps), G Parling (Leicester Tigers), C Robshaw (Harlequins), B Vunipola(Saracens), D Wilson (Bath Rugby), T Wood (Northampton Saints), T Youngs (Leicester Tigers). Backs: C Ashton (Saracens), M Brown (Harlequins), L Dickson (Northampton Saints), O Farrell (Saracens), T Flood (Leicester Tigers), B Foden (Northampton Saints), A Goode (Saracens), J Tomkins (Saracens), B Twelvetrees (Gloucester Rugby), B Youngs (Leicester Tigers).
Corbs is a big miss, especially with Mako injured too. I remain agnostic about Marler, who does strike one as more beard than ballast at times and (as one understands) might miss out with concussion anyway. Ashton was horrible versus the Argies again, butchering one try through sheer poor technique and coming ruddy close to arseing up the one he did finally score too. His continuing presence seems to suggest a somewhat Mother Hubbardish quality about our wing stocks. I'd personally be looking over the Channel to Toulon and Delon Armitage myself, in the absence of Yarde and Wade. Always liked the big fella's ability to straighten the line.
Comments on the FRance New Zealand game (just watching it now) Charles Piutau possibly the difference between the sides. He's a star already and is better than Savea. 1) France produce great props and loose forwards. Their number 7 is awesome. If NZ can't win the next world cup I want them to win it. Still have fond memories of Blanco going across in the corner to with the semi in 87. 2) Mas is the best in the world in his position 2) The French 10 is not a good tactical kicker despite his offensive skills. 3) Parra's goal kicking not good enough for a test match. Didn't Yachvilli kick for them in the World Cup? 4) French 12 is world class 5) French were stupid to take a set piece as a penalty against us with one minute left. We know too much about playing an inch within the law to either spoil that scrum or make sure it is disrupted ball coming back. Tap it and run is the only option.
Possibly. He has previous, definitely. Mind you, Care's continuing presence in squads shows Lanky's not entirely adverse to moist and cavernous vaginas tho. I think the fact Delon's in France and not in the elite or Saxons squads is probably more of an issue. Still leaves chaps like Sharples, Monye, Strettle and the bandy legged lad from Gloucester whose name escapes me tho; any of whom I'd take over Ashton currently. EDIT: May.
Woo, Cole starting again, but Dickson keeps his spot. Mike Brown; Chris Ashton, Joel Tomkins, Billy Twelvetrees, Ben Foden; Owen Farrell, Lee Dickson; Joe Marler, Dylan Hartley, Dan Cole, Joe Launchbury, Courtney Lawes, Tom Wood, Chris Robshaw (c), Billy Vunipola. Replacements: Tom Youngs, Matt Mullan, David Wilson, Geoff Parling, Ben Morgan, Ben Youngs, Toby Flood, Alex Goode.
Dickson: ugh. Ashton: double ugh. Goode on the bench: treble ugh. Could get ugly, IMHO. Part of me* does want to see McCaw show up Robshaw's inadequacies at the break down too, because I genuinely think his being captain is holding us back. If he was seen as a better option than Wood at six, then fine. Not a call I concur with, but not one that's completely outlandish. Him at breakaway is a nonsense, however. Like Moody & Worsley before him he's a specialist blind side flank who somehow gets picked at seven and then praised for displaying the qualities that make him a good #6; tackles like a Trojan and hits the ruck hard. *A bigger part of me wants to be proved wrong tho.
One has to admire the technique from Reed, but there's no way he should have been allowed to get the ball away.
Bloody hell. An offload from a lock to a prop made the initial hole there. Our defence is all over the shop.
