Autumn Internationals

Don't be hating on me just cos I'm beautiful.

Was a very disjointed display; as always it seems we either beat the Aussies up front or not at all. &, tbf, we did completely muller them in the scrums and the ref officiated them perfectly, pinging every hackneyed bit of Wobbly tight five limp-wristedness.

That said Farrell's place kicker could (and maybe should) have cost us the game; against a less wretched oppo 9 points is usually the difference between a win and a loss.

Brown was awesome; who'da thunk a career #15 would look a better player at fullback that on the wing, eh? Uncomplicated sort of a player, but has the happy knack of breaking the first tackle as often as not. With him & Billy V we were consistently making good ground.

The creative hub was rancid; I think the Dickson experiment should never be repeated and, much as I love the boy, Twelvetrees carried over his dodgy form for Gloucs to the international sphere and I can't in good conscience give him a pass for playing behind a pissweak scrum yesterday. Farrell's performance was a bit of a curate's egg but (and you might want to imagine me climbing atop my soapbox for this next bit) how much better did we look when Flood came on?

Tomkins was anonymous, Ashton predictably woeful but Yarde was encouraging, even if he might've seen a yellow for his wonderfully cynical professional foul.

I thought Tomkins put in a pretty good shift defensively tbf. No doubt we lacked midfield threat though. Missed Tuilagi.

yeah with the greatest of respect, i got the distinct feeling that england would win or lose based on whether we let them - ie. whether we actually played disciplined yet creative rugby which we show for ten minutes each game, or whether we revert to type and do stupid shit to gift the oppo points.

unsurprisingly, we spent the second half in the latter mode of operation. all england had to do was stay in the game while we used up our quota of sensible rugby and the game was theirs, tbh. some of genia's kicking... dear me.

Aus spent the first half in the latter mode of operation, it's just Farrell's 2 from 5 that stopped it showing

    oh yeah very much so.

Only got to see the last twenty odd minutes, but it sounds like our back row/second row had a fairly decent game?

  7. Howe JHF Howe

Generally, yeah. The lineout was buggered in the first half though, which appeared to be mainly Lawes' goof. Towards the end of the game 1-8 were well on top, and the front row was a non-contest for the whole thing.

Yus the English! Because fuck the Aussies.

Side announced tomorrow morning and the Beeb reckons 36 will keep his place. Sounds like Lancaster regards Eastmond and Burrell as solely options for 12, so this centre pairing will get a few goes.

Most likely an unchanged side excluding Youngs or Dickson and Corbisero coming back for Mulipola.

    Speaking of Corbs

    U mad Mako?

Wade's been retained too, so quietly hopeful Ashton is finally led to the barn with the twelvebore.

Ran in a couple of worldies at the weekend, so could scarcely have done more. As opposed to Ashton, who could scarcely have done less versus the Wobblies.

    Indeed

The commentator (narrator?) casually describing his first effort as "typical" suggests that he really ought to have been in the white jumper by now

Not sure I'm a fan of that team at all really.

It's a shame Yarde is injured. Foden and Ashton as the wingers is a bit yuck

  16. Mariner CL Warrington

Not a fan of replacing the whole front row. Foden on the wing is a bit bleh too.

  17. Howe JHF Howe

Given the injuries I don't mind the wingers - need to pick from within the squad at this point. I like Foden anyway.

Dickson playing is tosh. Really does not have enough options.

Corns was bound to be first choice if fit and I don't really mind mucking around with the hooker - Youngs did not cover himself in glory and Lancaster has made it understood we're squad building. Leaving out Cole as well is a bridge too far though. Pumas scrum will be their strength and they could well jump us if they get an up front advantage.

  18. BoyBlunder BOY Blunder

I like Foden too... just not on the wing

  19. Howe JHF Howe

I actually think that with such a dodgy midfield, it'll do us some good to have a winger who'll specialise in running from deep rather than being more of a wide receiver. No fluke that's where Brown was more dangerous from against the Wallabies.

  20. The Boy Brumby ZJ Brumby

Heavy workload for Big Ben, there.

Think Billy V is starting at #8, isn't he?

Goode on the bench with Flood there is all kinds of pointless; would've far rather Burrell was given a go. Goode just doesn't have the gas for a back three slot.
