That's no different than saying you only beat Manly because they played without Brett Stewart. It's impossible to determine. Was Tedesco's injury the reason you only completed at 53% for the second half? A demolition job? You beat Souths by 9 points and they made more than 3 times as many errors. Every side in the comp would've beaten them that night. A real top 4 contender like Manly or Melbourne would've put 40 on them.
You'd think a real top 4 contender would beat a Sezerless Titans in Melbourne, especially with the return of Smith and coming of a shellacking at the hands of the dogs.
I think the World Cup has had a massive affect on a lot of teams this year. I'm not surprised to see clubs like Melbourne have slow starts.
I think the perceived speeding up of the game is bullshit. The World cup on the other hand for quite a few clubs will lead to slow starts even if it is by design.
Don't know why the world cup would cause problems. It finished a long time ago. Difference between 4 and 6 months isn't that big.
You'd think so. Melbourne have struggled against the Titans the last few times they've played. Don't know why.
Yeah look I really don't think so. Rugby league is a tough sport but there's no actual reason plays need six months off playing (I do realise their time off training is a lot shorter) other than the fact that they're used to it. If anything the World Cup should help some of the players bridge the gap between the two seasons and negate some of the rustiness and slow starting we often see. Unless you're making the argument that heaps of players picked up actual injuries in the World Cup that they're still carrying, which I don't think you are, then it's crap IMO. The reason we've seen lots of "slow starts" is because the first few rounds are always full of coin-flips. Two points separates first and tenth and 75% of the competition is on either 2/5 or 3/5. We're not seeing form reversal from last year; we're seeing week to week randomness pretty typical of the opening rounds.
Why do you keep insisting it was only a 9 point result. Were clearly only scored because of the Tigers giving up and it could've been a lot more. The reason why Souths had 3 times more errors? Because the Tigers played well and had extremely good line speed throughout which forced the errors. The Inglis injury also played a huge part in the result, but that was hardly a decisive factor given the way the match played out.
Big pack that likes to offload. Throws off their middle third defensive structure which is generally very good. It's why they also tend to struggle against the Warriors.
Also not getting that Stewart point... Regardless, there's a big difference to having a player unavailable from the beginning of the week and losing a player 20 or so minutes into a match. Especially when that reshuffle sees Chris Lawrence marking Glenn Fisiiahi and Brooks marking Hurrell.
So you think the Tigers "giving up" after what 60 minutes speaks favourably to their ability as a side? I tend to think the exact opposite. I use the score for shorthand. Given the way Souths played, it should never have been a contest. But it was. It was only 14-6 at half time and it's probably the worst I've seen Souths play for years. They were diabolical. What a load of shit. Souths have been playing dropsies all year so far. They've made 80 errors in 5 matches for Christ's sake. Oh okay. Haha. So Tedesco gets injured and a certain Tigers victory goes begging. Inglis gets injured but that doesn't matter because Wests would've won even if he'd played. Nady is that you?
It wasn't just the Tedesco injury in the Warriors game, really. By the end of the game, they had no fit players on the bench. Everyone out there was completely buggered and several players were playing out of position. I still don't really rate the Tigers much - certainly not as a top four challenger - but no-one should be reading anything into that Warriors game.
I'm not so sure. There are teams that offload almost as much as the Titans but don't consistently trouble Melbourne. And there are teams that don't offload half as much but always do. Manly for example.
