Thompson was pretty good. I agree, he better not change a damn thing. He was one of the Cowboys best, makes great kick returns which the Cowboys needed, that put them on a roll.
Actually pleasantly suprised with how close we got in this one. On the road, without our best back, and probably best forward, and we still did okay Tomane needs to do some work though, was massively outclassed by Tonga. Infact, add Rogers too, far too often they were made to look ordinary by Tonga running good lines. Gallant, what a ****, i only cut him a few days ago. But fantastic game, i love how he runs it full tit, no matter what, had a very good game. Watts was again ****ing magic off the bench. How long till he gets a start IMO. Would love to see him at 6 outside Thurston, would be a top halves pairing.
Thought Zillman was pretty good for the Tits at the back too. Obv Minichello dominated the forwards for Tits, Tagatese was decent, but coughed up a soft try O'Donnell was a machine for the Cows, some good hit ups, and solid defense. LOL, **** i must have done **** all work last night when the game was on
No thanks, they shouldnt make any changes, Thompson should retain his spot, Watts to never go in the halves.
Yea i Rate Thompson too, he had a pretty good game. Watts is just really dynamic, and takes it to the line, puts pressure on. Watts > Rovelli for sure, but Thompson > Watts at this early stage.... Between Payne, Watts and Amos, Cows have got pretty decent depth at hooker
Watts in any games he had in the halves played shithouse, same with when he got tried at fullback. I think hooker or off the bench is his best position.
LOL, Fullback? Epic fail coming up there It's interesting because he plays a completely different style of game to payne, so i notice him more at a stand-off sorta role
Yeah he does have that sort of style but Id keep it as it is, except maybe start Watts and have Payne on later. Thompson played a good debut in the number 6.
Why? He does actually kick to take pressure off Thurston, unlike Payne and Thompson. His impact off the bench would be lost, sure, but a bloke who makes 95m from 5 runs in 28 minutes has got to be given more time. Even when he played halfback in Thurston's stead (Origin), he made good metres and played pretty strongly considering the quality around him. His defensive technique is good enough to play in the halves as long as he doesn't have Graham next to him. I wouldn't drop Thompson but he has to get more involved for mine. A solid debut in the halves but next week will be the real test.
Fair enough. I disagree entirely. You try playing halfback in a Cowboys team with no Thurston, Webb, Bowen, Burns or Lillyman. Considering he is a rake, to be moved to fullback and play how he did was a feat in itself. His pace was sufficient and that says a lot.
Im probably thinking of that time he played fullback when he had a shocker tbh. They shouldnt make changes to the side now, I agree Thompson needs more involvement but its only his first game so hopefully he continues to get better. Gallant to remain in the team too.
Got a fair point there, cant really argue that. As I said Im probably only thinking of that stint he had at fullback where he was shit, in the halves I dont think he did as shit as I said but was horrible at fullback.
I hope Watts does remain on the bench. I just want Henry to give him more time. 28 minutes is rubbish for what he offers. I've said this in the past. I wouldn't pick him for QLD or Australia but I have no doubt in the world, he would offer far more and I would have much more confidence in him playing off the bench than Gidley or anyone else. His game is just so simple it's hard to mess up. Scoot, scoot, scoot. His pace and acceleration are awesome which is why he has averaged 9 or 10m a run since coming into FG.
I definitely agree he should get more time, do you think at some stage he might start on the run on side?
I cant see him getting a start of Payne. If Thompson turns to shit, id say he'll be next in line for the 6 jersey.
