Who should play right centre for NSW next year?

Not necessarily. Again, I don't care who the better ball players are, I care who is more creative. If Carney/Mullen is even only 1% more creative than the alternative, I'm going to pick them.

The conversation is a bit erroneous anyway because afaic Carney is as good a ball player as any other option you have to play in the halves.

Yeah, even if you call Mullen and Carney ball runners, they still offer more creatively than their other options.

You're making this discussion about the halves when it's not. Refer to my original post, "regardless of who you pick in the halves".

    Never said otherwise....

Although I think Mullen is overrated on this forum, if he gets picked it'll be largely on the back of his kicking game.

Um, well it became about the halves when we both responded to SP's post with posts of our own about the halves.

Both of them are better ball players than both Pearce and Maloney....and Reynolds and Sutton and whoever else ffs.

They're better ball players than anyone in the NRL bar Thurston and *maybe* DCE. Magic runs a tough school.

They're totally different discussions. My first opinnion is based on our fullback irrespective of who pople think should get picked in the halves, my second on who actually gets picked in the halves.

I really disagree that they're 'more runners' than playmakers, especially now compared to 6 years ago.

I actually think Todd carney has degenerated as a player and is now the most over rated player on this forum. He plays way too flat and sideways for cronulla. He was much better st canberra and easts running the ball and not being so pidgeon holed into one section of the field. He is still the most important player to nsw's chances though. Pivotal.

    I guess that's a different discussion though.

Dude, this isn't all about you.

    And there it is.

It's not really a different discussion though. I think Hayne is to NSW what Carney was a couple of years back, so much of our chance to win rests on his selection.

I also agree Carney is a shadow of his former self although I still hold hope that it's due to his injuries and he'll recapture his old form where at his best he was first and foremost a ball runner.

Dude just because you want to have the conversation in isolation, doesn't mean I, by responding, implicitly agree to conform to your guidelines. In my opinion, who gets picked in the halves should have a sizeable impact on who plays fullback. You may be of EWS's school of thought that Hayne ought to be fullback no matter who plays in the halves but I'm certainly not.

    Replace DCE with Cronk...

I too hope Carney can rediscover his running game but even if I knew full well he wasn't going to break the line all game I'd still pick him without a moment's hesitation. His running game has certainly declined in the last couple of years but his ball-playing skill, if anything, has improved.

My guidelines are pretty simple, don't quote me if you're going to write irrelevant arguments. I didn't even comment on anything to do with what you brought up. It's like walking up to a random in the street and asking him what he has against Anne Hathaway.

Next time I'll be more up front with my fuck off.

Me too, I don't think I've not named him in my origin side for about 4 years now.

He's definitely overrated on here though, and it shits me because the two places I post the most about league, here and the Roosters forum there are two polar opposite opinions. I'll find myself arguing for Carney strongly on the Roosters site and then find myself criticising him here.

I've tried not to think about the Blues side for next year, because I start off confident in the backline & then get to the halves & realise that NSW will select the overblown combination of Maloney/Pearce. Although if I was forced to pick 1, I'd take Maloney, simply because I think he is building up to something. I did have question marks over his ability in tight games & there are still some lingering doubts, but compared to 2011 when people started waxing lyrical about him, I think he is an improved player.

    My backline would be:

    1. Brett Stewart
    2. Jorge Taufua
    3. William Hopoate
    4. Michael Jennings
    5. Jarryd Hayne
    6. Todd Carney
    7. ???

I'll no doubt get "questioned" by an old friend about the selection of Taufua.
