    In all honesty, I really don't see why somebody would advocate Gallen and not Bird. Bird hasn't produced Adrian Brunker-like efforts. Bird hasn't been stripped of club captaincy. Bird, whilst overrated, has actually been very solid throughout his Origin career.

    Campese reminds me a lot of Thurston, in that he's far too excitable and rash. He has zero tact with referees and doesn't have the Origin experience or form to make up for it. Picking players to captain their state before they've played 5 Origins doesn't work IMO. The only player to have done so successfully in 30 years is Wally Lewis. You need someone who's been there and done it.

    Personally, I would go for Jamie Lyon although I'm not sure I even want him in the team. I'm starting to lean towards playing him on the left so he doesn't have to defend Inglis.

    Between Lyon, Lewis and Gidley IMO. Gallen needs to take back leadership duties at the Sharks and prove he is actually a decent leader again before getting called up for NSW captain.
    Lyon and Lewis both have captaincy qualities in them but Lewis is better with the media than Lyon, afterall thats why Manly had two captains last season.
    Gidley has done it all and has done a pretty good job, only real issue with it is that he probably won't start.

    Bird has never struck me as a captain tbh.

    Best candidate is probably Lyon but considering he didn't want to play only two years ago and he's only one poor performance away from getting dropped I'd be surprised if they picked him. Will be out of Lewis & Gallen imo.

    Lyon will be centre all series but for injury IMO. Close to being the best centre in the game with inglis set to **** ff.
