Vipers confident bowling line-up will live up to the hype​

Season 11 is only just around the corner and we’ve already seen the start of the Vipers new bowling line-up attack on the competition in the pre-season Care Cup and it’s safe to say, the Vipers are already looking like a force. With new additions <a href=http://cricsim.com/site/players.php?id=410>GJ Weaver</a> and <a href=http://cricsim.com/site/players.php?id=332>WC Welker</a> as well as the underrated <a href=http://cricsim.com/site/players.php?id=401>KF Tait</a>, the Vipers bolstered their bowling attack after their disappointing end to Season 10.

Weaver and Welker both had scintillating seasons and join already prominent wicket taker <a href=http://cricsim.com/site/players.php?id=365>DA Eggman</a>, the fired up <a href=http://cricsim.com/site/players.php?id=194>GR Smith</a> and talented all-rounder <a href=http://cricsim.com/site/players.php?id=862>JM Hughes</a> as the main bowling attack for the season. Weaver and Hughes are also both very good with the bat making them a very handy combination. From what has been seen at pre-season training, the combinations are gelling and all players have the upmost respect for each other.

“Eggman [has been] consistently one of the best bowlers over the past two seasons. While Gazza [Weaver] is the underrated key in the bowling line-up and he can also pitch in with runs when needed” said Welker at a recent Vipers fan day.

On top of that, Welker also acknowledged the sometimes overly fired up Smith will be hoping for a break-out season and that perhaps avoiding bans will be his biggest priority. Recognition of Hughes, in his second year with the Vipers was also present.

“With less pressure on him [Hughes] to bowl as many overs as he had to as the clubs main spinner last season due to my arrival he should be able to put up some nice numbers both with the bat and the ball”.

Head of Recruitment and fellow bowler <a href=http://cricsim.com/site/players.php?id=365>DA Eggman</a> was also excited for the season which promised to be a very dominant one for this particular line-up. He had a strong emphasis on the potential for success of the bowling unit as a whole.

“The best aspect of the Vipers bowling attack is our versatility and our depth. With the additions of Weaver, Welker and Tait it really strengthens our attack” Eggman said.

“Last season Fiery [GR Smith] and I really carried the attack with the odd wicket from Hughes or Torres [<a href=http://cricsim.com/site/players.php?id=421>J Torres</a>]. This season we'll have a much more diverse distribution of wickets”

“With that versatility, it really doesn't matter what pitch we play on, we can play 2 spinners or 4-spear-headed pace attack”

Eggman also sung the relief the whole Vipers squad has with the luring of leg-spinner <a href=http://cricsim.com/site/players.php?id=332>WC Welker</a>. The Vipers played the whole of last season with no specialist spinner which forced JM Hughes to be picked in the team on purely a bowling approach.

“Not having a pure spinner in the side last season hurt us in some games and now getting a spinner that can take 8 wickets on a flat wicket with no spin assist is gun” Eggman said.

While the Vipers have a very strong bowling line-up, they will not be totally reliant on it with class batsmen at the top of the order as well such as <a href=http://cricsim.com/site/players.php?id=362>JE McGrath</a>, <a href=http://cricsim.com/site/players.php?id=191>T Delonge</a> and <a href=http://cricsim.com/site/players.php?id=421>J Torres</a>. Perhaps you could say that it was the bowling line-up last season that made that difference in making the final and not making it.

The Vipers kick off their season in the next week and will be hoping for a strong start to the season where they can hope to try and reach the top once again.

 

Pretty average but its a start.
