I'm going to make some comparisons between the two since Shakib made his debut.

    Vettori - 970 runs at 38.80 and 64 wickets at 30.93.
    Shakib - 715 runs at 29.79 and 48 wickets at 28.27

Leave out Vettori's games against Bangladesh and it reads -

    Vettori - 691 runs at 32.90 and 44 wickets at 38.40.

    Like I said, it's close.

Oh and originally you were comparing stats from the last 5 years?
You obviously know that in terms of careers Shakib averages more than Vettori with the bat and less with the ball?

Fine then, rule out more than half of his career, and judge him off a mere 15 matches, see if I care.:p

If you take all his Bangladesh games in that time, he doesn't have a single one on the subcontinent, whereas Shakib gets half his games there.

  4. Speirz DG Speirs

Indeed. Shakib however hasn't been around anywhere near long enough for me to consider him. It'd be like saying Mendis is better than Murali already.

  5. Boobidy BJ Gemmell

While your trying to make Shakib look better, take out all of his bad games. He will look like a much better player.

  6. Baxter MJ Deane

Mendis isn't better than Murali but the chances of Mendis outperforming Murali if they were to play a series tomorrow aren't exactly small. It's happened before :p.

I haven't touched Shakib tbf, just showing the fact that Shakib doesn't have the luxury of bowling to the Bangladesh line-up or bat against the Bangladesh attack.

  8. Speirz DG Speirs

Doesn't mean he's the better player though. Same thing with Vettori and Shakib IMO. I don't think anyone really doubts that Hauritz is the worst Australian bowler, but he's having the best series atm.

  9. Boobidy BJ Gemmell

And Vettori doesn't have the luxury of bowling to the 'batting' line-up that NZ offers.

  10. Baxter MJ Deane

Slightly different as Hauritz is over performing and shouldn't be doing as well as he is.
The difference in ability between Murali and Mendis or between Vettori and Shakib isn't that great. Both of the more inexperienced of the pair have proven them selves to be excellent cricketers in their fledgling careers.

Over time I think Shakib will falter though, particularly with his batting. There's only so much responsibility one player can have.

Throw in Vettori's obv. superior captaincy and he's got him well covered for mine.

  12. Boobidy BJ Gemmell

And Vettori has proven himself. And he is the reason NZ has won any matches over the last.....ever.

  13. Baxter MJ Deane

Yeah I'm not saying Vettori was a shit pick and you should've chosed Shakib, I originally said it was debatable, which we've both proven to be true :p.
Bit harsh to comment on Shakib's captaincy yet, TBH he just led Bangaldesh to their first ever overseas white wash, so he's already done better than all previous Bangladesh captains.
Shakib probably will have a rough patch in his career, all players do, I'm just hoping he doesn't shoulder the responsibility for ever and that Bangladesh can produce one or two more players as gifted as him to help shoulder the work.

  14. Boobidy BJ Gemmell

Lies. Bangladesh have have plenty of whitewashes.

  15. Julian BJ Taylor

Bangladesh played the rock apes' 7th string side.

    Nothing to be proud of.

  16. Boobidy BJ Gemmell

    Who did they beat?

  17. Baxter MJ Deane

TBH I'd celebrate it if I'd won **** all else.

  18. Speirz DG Speirs

Vettori and Clark, time to get me some batsmen.

  19. Cribbage RG Cribb

West Indies, but West Indies best 60 players or so were on strike.

  20. Andato BJT Manera

    Team is shaping up well.
