I think Mansour will end up at the Dogs.

I really think Penrith will regret letting go of Mansour, it's hard for me to be unbiased as I love Mansour and have a huge 1 club man fetish, but ignoring the sentimental reasons I think the Panthers set up will suffer. His runs out of Penriths end are immense and make it that much easier for the Penrith forwards to do their jobs, mainly because To'o and Mansour do half of it for them.

When I look at their line up and see the the 'saw is gone to be replaced by Staines and now there's question marks over where Naden will be, I wonder whos going to take that backline work load? Staines physically isn't made for it, Naden could have done a bit but he may well be a non entity next year, meaning we could see May or Whare playing inside of Staines, I don't see where you're getting up to 12+ effective tough hit ups there.

It might just mean the forwards have to do more, which is their job, but it adds to how Tamou will be missed. I like Leniu and Leota, but it's a lot to pick up the Tamou load, especially if Tetevano is the back up, gives his all but just isn't much. It pretty well has to mean that there's even more on the shoulders of of Fischer Harris, who already puts up big figures and Yeo, who had a massive 2020, but I think benefits getting involved in the later tackles when the platforms been laid. Could mean trouble.

Staines is a gun and I'm sure they want him to be their long-term fullback, but if they were determined to keep him due to this I think actually giving him the fullback spot would've been the chad move. You're absolutely right that the go-forward could struggle. Penrith have relied on their wingers for this for years.

They're definitely just delaying making a decision on Edwards.

I'm not convinced Mansour is one of those wingers who is going to age well, he's probably got another 2 years max of being effective at the top level, there were already signs this year in his contact and play the ball speed that the quality of his hit ups were starting to deteriorate.

I just don't know what Penrith are trying to build on one hand whinging about loyalty but at the same time giving them nothing to aspire to. Mansour should've played out his NRL career with the Panthers and then had his farewell tour before going over to the ESL. Seems like quite a big character in the changing rooms too.

Most sporting codes are the same. You are forever remembered for your playoff performances. Mansour was a bit on the shitty side deep in the playoffs so they want shot of him.
Same thing happens in the NHL ice hockey. You come good in playoffs and you can write your own ticket, however if you flake in playoffs despite having a strong regular season then you are regarded as a shit cunt. And you get traded for a sack full of pucks.

Sounds like Roosters have been trying to sign Widdop or Benji.

I'm kind of not surprised just given how much we have struggled with rookie halves.

Apparently Dogs signing Allan opens up a spot for Souffs to sign Mansour.

Yeah I think it makes a lot of sense. Sign Benji or Widdop for one year, play Walker off the bench and have him develop with the squad, promote him next year if he's developing well. I don't think Lam is going to make it.

Benji to Roosters has seemed like the perfect fit to me. They've got the list to win a comp in 2021, just short a half.

I'd have thought bringing in a bloke who managed 20+ try assists in 2020 that'll play for peanuts was a no brainer.

Are both Morris's going around again?

Yeah they're both doing another year. The fact all 16 clubs apparently passed on Widdop at 300k doesn't sound legit to me. There is 8+ clubs that could use him.

    Name some of those 8
Out of interest. Only if you want to.

Warriors, Dragons, Roosters, Broncos, Storm, Cowboys, Knights, Bulldogs, Titans and Tigers

    I mean, he's not wrong

I agree with the essence of his point as well. For example, why did Roosters pick Benji over Widdop?

I can only speculate is that some clubs eg Rooster want a 12 month horizon for their signing and Widdop and his agent want an investment in his career development so he can grow with one team for several years. I imagine a half would be central to all the systems and shapes a team runs so chopping and changing each year would be non optimal.

From a warriors point of view (one of the teams Boobiddy listed) we are commited both contractually and from a "give the dude a chance so we can see his potential" with both CHT and Kodi. We were never in the market for a starting half at this stage even if one of the calibre of Widdop or even a Cronk were available.

I feel like Kodi has had a long time to prove that he's a NRL standard half and he just hasn't done it.
If you could get a Widdop/Cronk you'd be crazy not to put them in the halves and move Kodi to 14

We already had SJ who is in the same tier as those two players and such a half at that salary didn't fit with our salary cap mix of where we were heading from a team composition point of view.
If Widdop really is being offered at $300K, which I find difficult to believe since Kodi cost us $650K and the going rate for a half is circa $800K, then agreed turning your nose up at widdop at the price does suggest, as boobiddy intimated suggest that something else is impacting his resume at the moment. Boobiddy's analysis mainly holds though provided the dirt cheap salary is correct.

Reading facey chatter it sounds like Widdop was pretty cooked in his SL season. Might've shaped as an Orford.0 return

For 300k, it's worth the risk. Just looking as a Brisbane fan, I'll take a cooked Widdop over a fit Isucko.

I think Kodi showed enough last season that he was an NRL standard half, though I wont argue with your 2nd point.

Thank you Jazman84. I wanted to reply to Tart and say Kodi progressed to NRL standard half last year as well but didn't feel qualified enough as a poster on Internet analyst to make that call with any gravitas.
Was going to point out that he had 15 try assists in 19 games placing him 12th in the league on that stat. He also had 12 line break assists and finished 15th in the league on that stat. 12th and 15th is pretty good and although not a top echelon performance is decent.
More importantly after screaming at my TV last year...the rugby league gods listened and he started to positionally kick. I am not sure if that is the right lexicon but he started tactically kicking for territory as before he hardly ever kicked and this allowed the defence to rush Blake Green or whoever he is halves partner was on the 6th tackle.
He really came on last year. Thank you Jazman.
