Origin 2024

  1. Magic AJ Parker

I think he's actually become quite underrated as a winger, but he's certainly no centre. He would have to be in the bottom tier of centres in the comp for mine.

Burton 100% shouldve been picked at centre. Talakai on the bench can get fucked imo, but yeah Burton covers the halves and his torpedo is a handy weapon too.

  3. Maroon_Faithful M Faithful

Fifita out. Hopgood is confirmed in. Called it pre-season.

  4. Maroon_Faithful M Faithful

I still cant believe they didnt pick Koroisau.

  5. Boobidy BJ Gemmell

Not picking Fifita is so dumb. The predicted bench is putrid, and putting a bloke like Piakura in the squad and not Fifita is laughable.

    I don't understand the Suuali'i hype

Hopgood I'm okay with because he's a middle. As long as Slater picks another middle, we'll be okay.

Cobbo at 17 is dogshit. 4 of the last 6 games Qld has lost an outside back yet we've still won. If there's no injury, we're playing with 16.

Like I said, you lose an outside back in the first half and its a 36% win rate. But the fucking win rate trailing at half time, no injury, is only about 41%. Aside from that Cobbo is a winger/fullback pure and simple. He cant tackle for shit.

Gun winger, mediocre centre. Should've been picked on the wing or not at all.

No Fifita? Wtf is this shit?

Slater must have a very good reason to leave Fifita out. Personally, I dont see it but he's done the same in the past and it's worked. Not at all afraid to swing the axe.

Slater’s first question when he fronted the press on Monday was about Fifita and the Melbourne Storm icon dropped a truth bomb on the axed Titan.

“This team doesn’t get selected over the last 24 hours, it’s a collection of habits over the course of the year and what players have done in the past,” Slater said.

“I wouldn’t say comfortable, that’s not what I feel right now.”

Slater went on to say: “Dave created a really high standard for his footy last year. He just hasn’t quite got to that standard this year.”

Slater also eluded to a classy text message he received from Fifita after he personally delivered the news that he’d been overlooked entirely.

“I spoke to Dave last night. He’s taken the disappointing news like a true Queenslander,” Slater said.

“He wished the best for the footy team. He further re-iterated that with a text message afterwards.

“I’ve got no doubt that David will get back to the footy that he did last year and will wear a Maroons jersey in the future again.”

I hate this reasoning. Fifita if not up to last years standard, is still much better than Sua and Nanai.

Yeah it's weird. I mean end of the day he is in competition with others, not himself from last year. Maybe Slater thinks his head aint in it fully. Dunno.

He keeps saying "habits" over and over. I think Slater thinks Fifita is lazy off the ball, which is largely true.

So just pick him on the bench and give him 10 mins or nothing, can't be lazy then. Cobbo is a pathetic pick, Hunt and all the backs can easily shuffle to cover all positions, there's zero purpose in having him on the bench. Fifita is exactly the type of bench player who can help you make a comeback if needed.

  15. Maroon_Faithful M Faithful

I wouldve had Fifita starting. Nanai off the bench. Our starting right edge is so fucking pus defensively.

I have a suspicion based on what Billy said that Cobbo will be used as a rover/second fullback if there are no injuries.

Fifita made 230m and had two try assists on Sunday. He also made 10 tackles and missed 4 lol.

  17. jazman84 JM Eightyfour

Not picking Fifita makes zero sense to me...

  18. Toolman TR Man

Having a risky constant attacking machine in Walsh isn't enough? Let's have two of them.

  19. Maroon_Faithful M Faithful

That's always been Slater's mentality. He's one of the most aggressive, anti-percentage footy, players I've ever seen.

Cant even imagine what he would've been like in today's hyper-attack focused gameplay.

Maguire clearly wants a much tighter ruck defensively by picking Jake T and McInnes who both regularly top the tackle counts. You cant have both tho imo. Trbojevic is averaging 80m a game and 7.3m a carry. In 2024, that is awful. Some players just get this reputation of being an "Origin player." Strong Josh Jackson vibes.

Yeo should be captain and should be starting. Paseka or Saifiti should've been on the bench imo.
