    What's the opposition to it other than "It'd cost a little bit and it's not worth it"?

    Certainly don't think it makes jerseys look worse as such.

    Basically just traditionalism. We're a sport that loves its traditions and this is just another one of them. Some people are saying that real fans would know players by their numbers etc.

    Don't have a problem with it.

    But I'm not Victorian and a lifelong fan of the game, so I'm different to the demographics where it might be controversial.

    Yeah, I'm not sure tbh. Above the numbers in the club initials which I'd say would have to be removed and that kinda says that the individual is ahead of the team.

    But I have no problem with the idea.

    would not bother me that much, plus not to blow my own trumpet, but i pretty much know the players by numbers anyway , so it would not concern me as much , just little thing but i did notice that last season the numbers on the jumpers were a bit low which left room for a name

    As someone who tried watching the sport a bit more last season I was up to fucks on which cunt was which(not including all the big names).

    Not entirely sure why current fans would have a problem with it, but that's something I've noticed with AFL fans, they don't seem to want the game progressing.

    A problem with it in the NRL would be that players have to have a set number based on position, eg haflback = 7 as opposed to keeping a number personally throughout the season.

    Yeah, definitely agree. Plus, even if you know the team reasonably well, then there's always a couple of rookies that complicate things. Very useful change from a selfish point of view.
