From what I've been reading so far

HP1, Philosopher's Stone is the worst by far. The writing style is weird, the pacing is kinda bad and the story is the most childish.

HP2, Chamber of Secrets is the 2nd worst, though a lot better than the first.

HP3, Prisoner of Azkaban is arguably the best. Intro to Sirius Black is great and Prof Lupin was my favourite character of the series in this book.

HP4, Goblet of Fire is just as good as the previous. That's when the books started becoming a lot longer and darker too. Cedric was a bro.

HP5, Order of the Pheonix is excellent too. Luna Lovegood is the best female char, and Umbridge is one of the best villains. Serius's death was very underwhelming though.

HP6, Half Blood Prince. 1/3rd of the way through it, not as good as the last 3 so far, but still 9/10 it's OK.

I felt the Order the Phoenix would have been amazing if it was a few hundred pages shorter.

I like longer books. Gives everything a chance to develop properly and sink in better.

I'm not a big fan of 5,6,7 because of the amount of shitty teenage angst that is present.

Yeah the first book is fairly childish and by far the worst of the series.

Personally I liked the second book a fair bit. While it is a bit childish at times, I think the whole "Heir of Slytherin" thing was very cool and the plot was obviously very well thought out.

Book three is ok but I'm not too crazy about it. I felt the ending left a few unexplained plot holes and it felt more of the same thing in comparison with the first two. I liked certain aspects of it, like the introduction of Lupin and Sirius and the story behind them all but it's far from my favourite.

Book four is awesome as it's a completely different type of story from the first three and it's action packed to the brim. It's good fun to read and the first real sighting of the antagonist.

I don't like five all that much. It just takes far too long to get started. Also the over emphasis on how gloomy Grimaud place is took most of the fun out of the book before it got to the finale. Also, I couldn't stand Umbridge. I agree that she's an excellent villain as she's very hateable but her constant interference in the plot annoyed the crap out of me.

    Love 6 and 7.

Finished reading the series yesterday. Maybe it's because I read all 7 in a row, but I wasn't feeling the last 2 books as much as 2-5. Good on Rowling for not making it feel rushed towards the end, but it almost felt like she had a "character death" quota she had to fill, and like 6 "non-villain" characters ranging from minor to major died in the space of 2 chapters, all but one of them off-screen. The epilogue was dangerous cheesy too.

Still, for the most part, it was a fantastic series.
