I don't think he should win it, but he's done an incredible job to keep them up with a game to spare when being bottom at Christmas.

No doubt, it is a "miracle" survival. But over the course of the season, with the exception of a slight honey moon period, Sunderland have been fairly tragic at times.

I guess there have been highs though, getting to the Capital One Cup final is huge for them and the job he's done in keeping them up is great. He could still finish in 12th position, and even 14th is pretty good for Sunderland. I guess overall, he's had a great season, and it's fair enough for his name to be in the hat, but I'm not sure he should win it.

    Pulis or Rodgers

Also I listened to the Ivanovic thing and he definitely is saying what the subtitles are.

    AWTA.

Dyke wants a new League Three to be made. Won't happen.

Yah so the top clubs can have B teams in the lower leagues. Not sure im keen

Not keen, another division to negotiate should we ever get out of the conference. Idea's ok in principle but don't think it's work with our league system

  10. loganb JEM Logan

Not keen on that idea tbh.

Finishing ahead of Cardiff, Fulham and Norwich isn't an achievement.

It is for a team who were bottom at Christmas. Only one other team has been bottom at Christmas and not been relegated.

Yeah and 7 points against City, Chelsea and United winning at Stamford Bridge and OT to do it too.

The rest of it kind of backs up what I was saying about them being tragic the rest of the time

Us giving them 6 points tears me up inside.

No way Poyet should even be considered for manager of the year. The miracle at the end was admirable, but the very fact he got them in that situation in the process shouldn't make finishing 17th fantastic.

If they win at Swansea, and City beat WH (not unreasonable results to assume) they'll finish 12th. What then?

They're currently 13th, aren't they? And he didn't exactly get them in the dire position they were in. Fairly certain he joined them October time, after the previous manager wasted all their funds on awful signings in the summer, leaving him with a fairly new squad, very little funding and in an awful position. He's somehow kept them up when it seemed certain that they'd be relegated, beating teams like Chelsea and United on the way to it and he did the double over Newcastle, which is a pretty big deal for the black cats. Add into that taking them to the Capital One Cup final, and he's done a bloody good job. Good enough to be mentioned, just not good enough to win it.

But massive peaks and troughs isn't any better than steadiness. If he'd kept them just above the relegation zone for most of his tenure no one would dream of comparing his achievements to Rodgers and Pulis.

I'm not sure you quite realise just what he's done. It's not really a case of massive peaks and troughs, not to me. Sunderland have been a club that has been struggling, and PDC really fucked them over financially. Poyet has managed to fundamentally change how they play, with no financial backing and a squad of questionable ability, and saved them from sure fire relegation, as well as beating Chelsea twice (and push them to the limit in a game that ended 4-3 to Chelsea), beat United twice, beat City, and done the double over Newcastle. What he's done has been remarkable. As I've said, not enough to win the accolade, but certainly enough to be mentioned. Not only that, but if they finish 14th+ (they're currently 14th, not 13th), then I would imagine that's above the place they should have finished.
