    Elite player performance plan

    Overhaul in the acadamy system

The new system will mean a selling club is paid £3,000 per year for every year of a player's development between the ages of nine and 11. The fee per year from 12 to 16 will range between £12,500 and £40,000

Top clubs will also be exempted from the current rules preventing them from signing under-16s who live more than 90 minutes' travelling distance away (or an hour for under-12s), allowing them to scout and sign players from anywhere in the country.

A few examples of how current deals would work if it used the new system, like if they were to happen now

For Raheem Stirling QPR received 600k rising to £5m. Under new rules they''d get £109k

MK Dons agreed £1.5m (rising to £2m) fee with Chelsea for 14yo Oluwaseyi Ojo this week. Under new rules they'd get £46.5k

Well that seems slightly harsh. Bullied out of it by the big clubs IMO

    Sounds dangerous

  7. Eds E Ames

    Lolz.

  8. Riddy JH Ridd

    their own fault though?

What's that aiming to do? It sounds pointless to me.

The only positive I can think of is of the best English prospects going to the best teams/training facilities without their parent clubs essentially saying no to sales unless you pay over the odds, it doesn't help the player

But then again its MASSIVE income for those clubs, why would you want to get rid of it

  12. loganb JEM Logan

Exactly, that club wants to make money. It just seems like a scheme that makes the rich teams richer!

What incentive did the football league have to agree to this...as it seems pretty fucking pointless.....people like Sir Alex and some of the premier league chairmen, must be clapping their fucking hands.

  14. BoyBlunder BOY Blunder

I think people like Sir Alex are terrible examples. It'll be the chairmen and Chief Execs that are licking their lips. Footballing people like the big managers won't be the ones raking the money in as a result.

  15. BoyBlunder BOY Blunder

It's probably going to make the national team stronger.

  16. BigGuns DA Astele

Spurs up 1-0 ht. Pav scores top corner from a free kick.

  17. loganb JEM Logan

Can sort of see how it would make the national team stronger, but surely there are others ways of doing this (like making every team play a certain amount of English players) or something similar?

  18. Speirz DG Speirs

The flipside of all this is that there is now not much of an incentive for any of these clubs to try and develop their own players and academies in the first place, so the quality of the juniors the good clubs are getting would decrease.

  19. mouse MJ Edwards

I really won't be surprise to see some clubs closing down it's youth system. They'll work out the cost of running them and how much revenue they're making through these youngsters and more often then not will be making a lost.

  20. loganb JEM Logan

Yeah exactly. It's so stupid tbh!
